**PURPOSE OF POSITION**
- To manage and ensure compliance with all existing environmental and other regulatory authorizations for operations.
- To manage and mentor the Environmental Compliance Officer.

**RESPONSIBILITES RELATING TO KEY PERFORMANCE AREA**

**Environmental compliance management**
- Manage compliance to authorizations obtained from Competent Authorities for operational sites, including but not limited to waste management licenses, water use licenses, integrated environmental authorizations and discharge permits.
- Manage consultants appointed to conduct environmental monitoring in line with authorization requirements, included, but not limited to groundwater monitoring, air quality monitoring and dust monitoring:

- Draft scopes of work for appointments;
- Request and review proposals;
- Handle appointment administration and provide input into contractual agreements;
- Guide consultants to provide expected deliverables;
- Facilitate site access;
- Consolidate and provide site information to consultants;
- Review and finalize reports; and
- Manage budgets and invoicing.
- Manage environmental management committee (EMC) requirements:

- Appoint independent chairpersons:

- Book venues for EMC meetings;
- Prepare presentations and present audit report findings, environmental monitoring results and new site developments to EMC; and
- Build and foster relationships with EMC members.
- Put systems in place to implement the requirements of the environmental authorizations on operational sites, such as sniff testing; flow meter monitoring and liner inspections.
- Provide guidance to operational teams regarding environmentally safe and sustainable practices.
- Review draft environmental legislation, bylaws and guidelines and proposed amendments to existing legislation, bylaws and guidelines and identify potential risks to current operations. Compile comments on the documents and submit comments to the relevant government departments.

**Manage environmental authorization projects**
- Manage consultants appointed to undertake environmental authorization processes:

- Draft project descriptions;
- Draft scopes of work for appointments:

- Request and review proposals;
- Provide input into contractual agreements;
- Guide consultants to provide expected deliverables;
- Facilitate site access;
- Consolidate and provide site information to consultants;
- Review and finalize specialist studies, scoping reports, environmental impact reports and environmental management plans; and
- Manage budgets and invoicing.
- Provide inputs into presentations and materials for public participation meetings.
- Attend public participation meetings.
- Follow up for feedback pertaining to environmental authorization decisions.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- At least 6 years environmental consulting experience
- Experience in a similar role advantageous
- Experience in waste management related projects advantageous
- Strong Report Writing and Review Skills
- Strong Organizational Skills
- Strong Communication Skills
- Working knowledge of environmental legislation
- Working knowledge of waste management legislation
- Previous experience in dealing with Competent Authorities advantageous
- Valid Drivers license as travel will be a requirement
- ** BSc. (Hons) Environmental Management or similar**
