Waste Carriers is seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced Compliance and Risk Manager to join our company.

**Job Purpose**:
As the Compliance and Risk Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with all relevant regulations and standards while minimizing operational risks. Your expertise will be crucial in developing and implementing effective compliance and risk management strategies that align with our business goals and objectives.

**Job Objectives**:
**1.** **Compliance Management**:

- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to waste management.
- Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to legal requirements and best practices.
- Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance levels and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide guidance and training on compliance matters.
- Monitor and track changes in compliance requirements and update policies and procedures accordingly.

**2.** **Risk Assessment and Mitigation**:

- Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the waste management operations, including environmental, health, safety, and operational risks.
- Conduct risk assessments to evaluate the likelihood and potential impact of identified risks.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans, ensuring their effective implementation.
- Monitor and evaluate risk management initiatives, recommending improvements as needed.
- Establish and maintain a risk register to document and track identified risks and their mitigation measures.

**3.** **Regulatory Reporting and Documentation**:

- Prepare and submit accurate and timely regulatory reports, permits, and licenses related to waste management activities.
- Maintain a comprehensive documentation system, including records of compliance activities, risk assessments, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper documentation of waste management processes, including disposal, transportation, and storage.

**4.** **Training and Awareness**:

- Develop and deliver training programs to increase awareness and understanding of compliance and risk management throughout the organization.
- Provide guidance and support to employees on compliance-related inquiries and issues.
- Foster a culture of compliance and risk awareness by promoting ethical behaviour and integrity.

**5.** **Continuous Improvement**
- Monitor industry trends, emerging regulations, and best practices related to waste management compliance and risk management.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, effectiveness, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in industry forums, conferences, and professional networks to stay updated on industry advancements.

**Key Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, compliance & risk, banking, business administration, or a related field.
- Proven work experience within a Compliance &/or Risk environment (within the waste management industry would be preferable, but not a deal breaker).
- Knowledge of waste management regulations, including environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and hazardous waste handling requirements.
- Strong understanding of compliance best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
