The institute has a job opening for a **Head of Department: Engineering **within our **academic structure**. The position requires a highly motivated individual who will do both teaching and carrying out research. We’re in search of an individual who is capable of providing strong academic leadership with a vision to deliver a quality driven academic service, based upon the institution’s mission of innovation and technology, while empowering others to do the same. It requires strong strategic input and practical implementation of the institution and departmental mission and strategy.

**Position Description**:

- Strategic/Managerial/Leadership Duties and Responsibilities:_
- Provide academic leadership, guidance, mentorship and vision to the department.
- Develop and implement effective strategies in line with the core business/departmental vision and strategic goals across all delivery methods.
- Develop, upskill and deploy a highly skilled and innovative academic team within the department.
- Develop and advise on the use and implementation of smart technology driven systems to support our delivery methods and innovation in teaching.
- Lead a nationwide team to achieve and exceed delivery expectations.
- Advising and contributing to curriculum development within the department and at a system level under the direction and guidance of the respective Project Leader.
- Participate in research projects culminating in recognised research outputs.
- Manage, monitor, develop and evaluate academic programmes as required by the respective department and Academic Board based on relevant expertise in the field and industry to ensure ongoing development and quality of programmes.
- Maintaining strong working relationships within the department and with other departments, while fostering a collegial spirit between the staff members in the department.
- Provide ongoing feedback as required and formally report back to the Academic Board.
- Operational Duties and Responsibilities:_
- Meeting with parents, guardians and/or sponsors to resolve queries and escalate if necessary.
- Ensuring adherence and conformance to legislative requirements of relevant accreditation bodies.
- Review, maintain and monitor the quality of teaching and learning based on adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
- Ensuring the quality of the assessments are adhered to by implementing, reviewing and monitoring the relevant assessment policies and procedures, both pre
- and post-assessment.
- Evaluating and reporting on the quality of resources.
- Managing the quality and creation of academic resources and documentation for the relevant department.
- Holding and leading regular departmental meetings and ensuring the keeping of minutes as required by the Academic Board.
- Ensuring that Timetables are created for each Intake and sufficient resources are assigned or requested according to the relevant Human Resource policies.
- Lesson Facilitation on an ad-hoc basis depending on operational requirements for a limited period.
- In collaboration with the Human Resource department identify, recruit, and onboard academic staff to deliver the required programme and/or module(s), and continuously monitor their performance across delivery modes.
- Analyse and interpret marks.
- Identify, propose, develop and implement improvement plans where deemed necessary.
- Assistance, where required and deemed necessary, with any operations on campus with the relevancy of the department.
- Qualification Development:_
- Completion of the Instructional Framework as per the required detail for lecturers;
- Tutorials and associated memos;
- Tests and associated memos;
- Laboratories and associated memos;
- Any quizzes and associated memos;
- Examination paper and associated memos.
- Any other responsibilities as reasonably delegated by a member of senior management.

**Application Requirements**:

- Master’s in Engineering as a minimum requirement.
- Doctorates would be an advantage. Demonstrable experience in accreditation and development of programmes, curricula and content.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
