**As a Field Service Technician (FST) within NOV’s Rig Aftermarket (RA) Team you will be responsible for the inspection and repair of NOV rig equipment globally, both offshore and onshore. As part of our Aftermarket service group, you will make recommendations to customers which ensures equipment continuously operate efficiently. You will react to ‘Rig Down/ Tool Down’ situations as a top priority and may support products ranging from Rig Floor Equipment (RFE), Legacy National Equipment (NOI), Pressure Control Equipment (PCE) and cranes (M&C). You will be home-based within South Africa and be expected to travel globally on an ad-hoc basis. Key to this role and your development will be your participation in our global levelling and competency systems. **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Service, repair, overhaul, inspection and identify faults on NOV Rig Equipment on a global basis.
- Carry out fault finding, repair and recommendations in a timely manner without compromising safety or quality.
- Support installation and commissioning projects as required.
- Make recommendations on improving product and systems efficiency, maintaining continuous and high levels of operation.
- Report and update relevant documentation including daily reports, survey reports, parts lists and service reports. High reporting quality is essential.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings/ schematics to identify and correct faults, redline drawings/ schematics.
- Escalate key faults or product failures to relevant department and progress through to resolution.
- Maintain effective communication with customers giving regular status update reports to ensure continuous improvement of all systems and processes.
- Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and customers.
- Inspect NOV equipment for conformance with NOV operational standards.
- Respond to emergency calls for Rig Down/ Tool Down situations when required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- National Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Mechatronics etc.) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience or relevant trade with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
- BTech or BEng in a relevant engineering discipline is beneficial (Mechanical, Mechatronics etc.).

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Time-served engineer/ technician.
- Working knowledge of installation, commissioning, overhaul, fault finding, repair and maintenance of heavy machinery or in an automation field.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Working knowledge within a similar position either offshore or in an automation field.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic systems is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems is beneficial.

**SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES**:

- Ability to interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics/ drawings.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to carry out repair and/or maintenance activities on hydraulic systems - de-aeration, flushing, valve setting, pressure check/ testing, replacement of filters, valves, hoses, fittings etc.
- Ability to carry out repair and/ or maintenance activities on heavy machinery - disassembly/ assembly of major and minor components, runout checks, backlash checks, lock wiring, lubrication, removal/ installation of bearings, seals, etc.
- Working knowledge of specialised tooling for repair/ maintenance activities - power tools, torque tools, vernier calipers, micrometer, dial indicator, boroscope etc.
- Working knowledge of safety procedures prior to commencing and upon completion of repair/ maintenance activities - risk assessments, job hazard analysis, isolations, lock out tag out etc.
- Working knowledge of both metric and imperial units of measurement and their conversion.
- Ability to inspect equipment, evaluate condition, make recommendations and report findings.
- Computer literacy (Including good command of Microsoft Office).
