**OVERALL PURPOSE**

The Lead Decision Scientist position is a big role, focused on the performance of our credit portfolio, and relies on strong financial, credit and analytical ability to help make funding decisions which aim to support our South African SME community. You will combine your qualification, analytical mind and very strong commercial awareness, with the ability to liaise and deal with stakeholders.

This position will sit in the Credit Decision Science function whose responsibility is to perform analysis and develop analytical models to translate active business data into usable strategic information to inform business on any critical and measurable credit and risk indicators, with a focus on portfolio management.

**Main responsibilities will include**:

- Continuously evaluate and develop analytical models and metrics to support funding decisions using the most appropriate tools and techniques, with a focus on credit risk, affordability and pricing models
- Ensure appropriate governance is applied to the development, sign-off and monitoring of analytical models, metrics and tools
- Provide input around how we can improve tools and processes already in place, specifically in identifying new opportunities to improve and update credit models to enhance risk predictions
- Analysis of portfolio performance (identifying higher risk areas, opportunities for expansion, recommend suitable remedies, etc.)
- Reporting to the Head of Data Science, Credit and Executive team on all credit portfolio performance and risks
- Extend companys data with third party sources that is relevant for building analytic systems
- Keep up to date with AI/ML technology to help identify emerging trends and methodologies affecting credit
- Work closely with the Data Engineering function to develop, maintain and scale the Data Warehouse
- Collaborate with our Product team to ensure work is prioritised
- Participate in the recruitment process as we look to expand our team

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WERE LOOKING FOR**:

- Degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or equivalent), preferably a Masters qualification
- 3+ years experience working within financial services
- 6+ years overall experience within data and analytics
- Skilled in Python (pandas, numpy, scikit, etc.) and SQL (Postgres and MSSQL)
- Experience mentoring other Decision Scientists or Quantitative Analysts with the ability to get teams working together to resolve problems
- Leading by example, always demonstrating best practices around model development
- Understanding and appreciation of product development processes within an agile environment
- Great communication skills with the ability to relay technical information to a non-technical audience
