Assistant General Manager

Award winning luxury Relais & Châteaux property in the Southern Suburbs, Cape Town is looking for an Assistant General Manager with a strong F&B background to effectively manage the day to day operations and employees as well as ensure guest satisfaction. Supporting and aiding the General Manager in achieving the profitability of the hotel and operational success.

- To maintain strong, professional relationships with the relevant representatives from competitor hotels and other organisations.
- To maximize employee productivity to meet the financial goals of the business as well as the expectations of the guests.
- To ensure that the F&B outlets are operated in line with maximizing profit while delivering on the brand promise.
- To coordinate the preparation of the Annual Business Plan for F&B
- To strategically analyze business performance
- To proactively manage costs based on key performance indicators.
- To ensure that all policies and procedures relating to financial record keeping and money handling are adhered to
- To assist in the inventory management and ongoing maintenance of hotel operating equipment and other assets.
- Receives and resolved or assists the General manager in resolving guest complaints
- Ensure full compliance to Hotel operating controls, SOP’s, policies, procedures and service standards.
- Performs daily, weekly and monthly property inspections.
- To ensure that all company minimum brand standards have been implemented
- To work closely with other team members in a supportive and flexible manner
- To taste and monitor the food and beverage products served
- To conduct regular divisional communications meetings a
- To constantly evaluate local, national and international market trends and other hotel/restaurant operations to make sure that the hotel’s own operations remain competitive
- To encourage Heads of Department to look for Marketing and Public Relations opportunities to increase awareness.
- To oversee and assist in the recruitment and selection of all Food and Beverage employees (Front Of House).
- To oversee the punctuality and appearance of all Food and Beverage employees
- To conduct annual Performance Development Discussions with Heads of Departments
- To ensure that all employees understand and adhere to employee rules and regulations.
- Provides training to staff and HOD's.
- To spend time in public areas observing employee-guest interaction and talking with guests
- Food & Beverage Planning & Control
- Regular stock takes
- Ensure tight control over F&B security to avoid damage or theft
- Ensure that all invoices reach the accounts office
**Requirements**:
- A diploma/Degree in Hospitality will be advantageous
- 3-5 years Food and Beverage experience and 2-3 years AGM experience at a 5* boutique property.
- A good understanding of Micros POS System
- Fluency in English (Written and spoken)
- Good verbal communication skills in English
- Additional Foreign language (beneficial)
