**Core purpose of the role**
The purpose of the role is to create and preserve an environment in the organisation where employees, visitors and property are safe and well-protected. The Head of Security manages a staff of security guards and surveillance personnel, who are responsible for patrolling and inspecting the organization’s property against theft, fire, vandalism, and terrorism, as well as ensuring the safety of personnel and visitors while on or about the organization’s premises. In addition, this role covers the provision of close personal security to executive staff of the organisation. This role include Barloworld Group responsibilities in terms of providing security services to facilities and personnel.
**Key deliverables and outputs**
- Collaborating with department managers to determine the organisation security needs.
- Direct and manage the development and preparation of the organisation’s overall security strategy and general business planning.
- Develop and implement security policies, protocols and procedures.
- Develop and implement complete security management systems/program in accordance with organisation plans and adherence to legislation and agreed regulatory bodies’ processes and procedures.
- Monitoring and managing security systems and surveillance equipment servicing and/or maintenance in conjunction with other appropriate departments in a timely manner.
- Fostering a culture of physical security and safety awareness by conducting training sessions and communicating with personnel.
- Effective liaison, support and assistance between security department and remainder of organisation.
- To maintain and improve mechanisms for risk assessment and disseminate feedback to the appropriate internal entities.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and security industry regulations.
- Achieve compliance to include legal/statutory, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations relating to security
- Working with management to develop and implement an appropriate budget for security operations and programs.
- Managing security risk assessments and supervising incident investigations.
- Managing, evaluating, and resolving any physical security incidents or breaches.
- Managing and directing the provision of personal close protection security services for executives across Barloworld divisions and Group.
- Maintain awareness of the current road systems and conditions by monitoring news and traffic reports, adjusting routes as necessary to avoids delays.
- Observe all surroundings and assess potential security issues, identify suspicious behaviour, develop appropriate security operational plans and competent reacts to threats as they occur in order to prevent or mitigate risks/threats.
- Identify, prioritise and manage optimisation and continuous improvement opportunities and projects.
**Internal**:
Engagement with general staff, Manager, Regional General Managers, Executives team and Barloworld Group stakeholders
**External**:
Security service providers, customers, suppliers, governance law enforcement agencies and others
**Qualification, Experience and Competencies**
**Academic qualifications**
**Essential**:
- Tertiary Qualification or Related Security and Risk Qualifications.
- Full driving Licence/ including defensive driving course completed.
**Advantageous**:
- Relevant personal security training/qualification.
- Training in defense, weaponry, and first aid.
- Relevant weaponry licensing.
**Work experience**
**Essential**:
- Three to Five years’ experience in the security industry.
- Proven experience as security manager or similar position
- Experience using relevant security related technology and equipment (e.g. CCTV)
- In-depth knowledge of security procedures and surveillance equipment
- Experience in reporting and emergency response planning
- Excellent knowledge of security protocols and procedures
- Extensive experience in preventing illegal activity and performing access control
- Knowledge of security industry regulations and national laws related to security and safety.
**Competencies**
- Ability to use computer software - Microsoft Office and other related tools.
- Genuine desire to provide security services with a high degree of personal responsibility.
- Ability to research and stay up to date with security trends, as well as changing government and state laws.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability in security management and control
- Leadership with ability to manage and motivate a team
- Works well independently and has basic project management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate attention to detail and being diligent.
- Committed, reliable and problem solving.
