The Competition Commission seeks to recruit a dynamic, hard-working and committed individual to fill the
**Principal Analyst** position in
**Market Inquiries**. The successful applicant will initially work on the Media and Digital Platforms Market Inquiry (MDPMI). Subsequent to the completion of this inquiry, the individual will move to other market inquiries for the remainder of the fixed term contract. The fixed term contract is renewable based on performance.

**Please note this position is available on a five-year fixed term contract.**

In this role, you will lead and manage the technical team undertaking market inquiry investigations. You will also be responsible for resource allocation, actively participating in Commission Committees, administering and executing activities to build capacity for research, report writing and correspondence. As the Principal Analyst you will be required to strategically lead, direct and manage the market inquiry technical team as well as supervise a team of analysts.

**Skills and Experience**

**We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements**:

- Honours degree in Economics or LLB Degree. Masters in Economics or LLM will be given preference.
- 8-10 years Economics or Legal work experience in competition law and practice.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of competition law and the Competition Act
- Strong analytical skills and experience in investigating cases and/or managing research
- Research and investigative skills along with strong investigative acumen.
- Proven project management experience of working in a multi-disciplinary investigation teams.
- Proven people management skills
- Proven stakeholder management skills

**Other considerations**:

- Track record of investigation and appearances in complex cases.
- Leadership capability/expert potential.

**Key Accountabilities**

**The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include**:

- Lead and manage a market inquiry technical team of senior analysts and analyst teams within a market inquiry;
- Leadership in determining the scope of an inquiry, the identification of issues to be assessed in a market inquiry and the evidence required to analyse those issues.
- Leadership in the development of information requests and survey instruments to gather the required evidence, including follow up requests.
- Conceptualising the development of an analytical framework for assessing the issues identified in a market inquiry, including research of international best practice and jurisdictional approaches to similar issues.
- Oversight of the analysis of evidence within the analytical framework in order to reach robust conclusions on whether features of the market hinder competition or undermine the purposes of the Competition Act.
- Developing potential remedial strategies for addressing any market features that hinder competition or the public interest.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to the technical team of senior analysts, analysts and junior analysts in the market inquiry technical team with regards to analysis.
- Reporting to the market inquiry panel on the progress and outcomes of the research, including the underpinnings of competition issues.
- Lead meetings with stakeholders on investigative issues, evidence and remedial actions
- Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for the effective implementation of the Competition Act.
- Lead post-inquiry litigation support and remedial action monitoring
- Actively manage and develop the technical team analytical and investigative capabilities
- Administer and execute activities to build capacity for research, report writing and correspondence;
- Contribute to the strategic planning and operational management of market inquiries.
- Participate in middle management decision making forums
