Senior Analyst:

Mergers and Acquisitions.

The core function of a Senior Analyst is to investigate mergers and acquisitions, as part of a team and/or independently. The position reports to the Principal Analyst (Head of a Team).

A starting annual total cost to company package of R ,14 (negotiable commensurate with experience)

Please note that the position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable.

Minimum Requirements:

We are looking for a committed individual who meets the following requirements:

  • Honours Degree in Economics or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree. Masters in Economics or LLM will be given preference.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a legal environment or economic analysis, 8 years' experience recommended.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Prior exposure to competition law/ economics is required.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment.

Competencies Required:

  • Demonstrable understanding of competition law/economics and merger control
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
  • Management/supervisory experience, an added advantage

Key Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

  • To investigate merger cases notified to the Commission in terms of Chapter 3 of the Competition Act, and accompanying Rules and to make recommendations to decision makers,
  • To conduct research and provide advice to decision makers on the impact of mergers in the economy,
  • To monitor merger conditions,
  • To lead, supervise and provide guidance to a small team of merger analysts,
  • To assist the Divisional Manager with the strategic planning, staff management, and development as well as general administration of the Mergers and Acquisitions Division.
