**Minimum requirements**

**Senior Lecturer**
- Doctorate in Food Science or Food Technology.
- A minimum of five years of teaching experience at a university level.
- Publications in DHET-accredited journals [minimum of three DHET-accredited publications over the

preceding three years].
- Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students [minimum of one Master’s student].
- Recipient of grant awards.

**Associate Professor**
- Doctorate in Food Science or Food Technology.
- A minimum of eight years of teaching experience at a university level.
- Publications in DHET-accredited journals [minimum of seven DHET-accredited publications over the

preceding three years].
- Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students [minimum of two Master’s students and one
- Recipient of grant awards.

**Full Professor**
- Doctorate in Food Science or Food Technology.
- Distinguished scholar with an NRF C-rating preferable.
- A minimum of ten years of teaching experience at a university level.
- Publications in DHET-accredited journals [minimum of ten DHET-accredited publications over the

preceding three years].
- Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students [minimum of seven Master’s students
- Recipient of grant awards.

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Extensive experience/ comprehensive knowledge of food safety with a willingness to spearhead

research in this area.
- Collaboration with local and international researchers.
- Design and development of curricula for programmes.
- Proficiency in blended teaching and learning.
- Track record of interactions with industry and participation in community engagement projects.

**SUMMARY OF DUTIES**:

- Teach food science, legislation and/or food microbiology modules at both undergraduate and
- postgraduate levels in the Food Science/ Biotechnology Programmes and to all faculties to which
- the Faculty of Applied Sciences renders a service in undergraduate and honours level programmes.
- Manage/ co-ordinate academic and research portfolios.
- Supervise undergraduate/ postgraduate students.
- Participate in community engagement projects.
- Perform other duties as determined by the Head of Department.
