**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

The purpose of this role is to execute activities associated with the preparation of Project Volta samples for laboratory analysis. This includes sub sampling using rotary splitters and other splitting technology, operate scales, drying ovens, milling machines, induction furnace and associated SAP and LIMS data capturing systems.

The incumbent must be able to operate all of the listed equipment and activities effectively, consistently and safely, as confirmed by supporting worksheets and regular planned job observations.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**

**PRODUCTION TARGETS ABD DELIVERABLES**
- Achieve daily sample preparation targets as established by the sample preparation plan - Ensure the plan is understood, fully executed and delays communicated timeously.
- Ensure sample preparation is performed within the quality tolerances as stipulated by LIMS and report any quality issues which may arise - Understand mass tolerances during the sample preparation process and compare mass change after each stage of the sample handling against established tolerances flow to the tolerances. Take due notice of risks associated with cross contamination and follow specific instruction to avoid this.
- Housekeeping standards are maintained as stipulated in the housekeeping checklist - perform safety and cleanliness checks and activities at least once a day and execute and communicate anomalies where necessary.
- 100% participation and compliance to all safety and security policies and procedures - familiarise and adhere to all safety and security requirements (company and department specific) and reports deviations and suspicious behaviours and/or situations. Take due notice that no internal or external customer is allowed inside the sample preparation facilities. However, if there is a decision taken by management to allow an external observer into plant, then this is allowed.
- Understanding and execution of business/production goals and personal performance criteria (KPIs) of the sample preparation environment with clear knowledge of accountability and targets - understand the departmental goals and align daily activities and communications with this.
- Operate the induction furnace as per standard operating procedure in line with production plan/safety and security requirements.

**OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCES**
- Ensure that the samples are securely stored, prepared and the excess returned as per metal accounting requirement.
- Enable optimal quality and achieve throughput as stipulated by demand (without impacting the quality of sample preparation)
- Ensure all equipment operate within specified parameters and report deviations/malfunctions timeously.
- Advise the supervisor on equipment malfunctions and equipment maintenance requirements.

***SAFETY REQUIREMENTS**
- Adhere to correct SHERQ procedures for the department and assist in preparing for SHERQ audits. Alert superiors to any discrepancies in the system.
- Ensure that safety record is maintained at ZERO LTI, environmental standards complied with and SHERQ lifestyle is visible.
- Report incidents & near misses regularly and timeously.
- Engage with superiors and safety representatives regarding any issue related to health and safety.
- Actively participate in risk identification and mitigation.

**QUALITY**
- Ensure sample preparation is performed within the quality tolerances as stipulated by LIMS and report any quality issues which may arise. These include moisture and drying oven temperature monitoring and recording, care to minimise mass loss during milling and screening, correct and accurate sample stock control.
