- A Master’s degree in communication or public relations with at least five to ten years’ experience in communication.
- A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
- Experiential knowledge of the National System of Innovation will be an advantage.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders from all levels.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Excellent understanding of the research-Communication continuum
- Must have five years’ experience in managing a diverse team of senior professionals.
- Be abreast with trends in the field of science communication.
- Have a good eye for detail, as well as good general knowledge.
- Leadership qualities that include humility, a commitment to excellence, strategic advisory experience, the ability to work as part of a management team and to capacitate more junior researchers and lead multidisciplinary teams; and
- Excellent computer literacy including a knowledge of contemporary ways of communicating research outcomes.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:**
Key Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with the Science in Society and Strategic Partnership Unit Directors to promote the visibility of the HSRC brand through profiling the work of the organisation and its human capital.
- Oversee continued alignment with the corporate manual in all aspects of the HSRC’s work and to periodically revise the corporate identity manual profile of the organisation through taking ownership of the compilation, production and distribution of specific deliverables such as the:

- HSRC annual report;
- Development and acquisition of Corporate promotional material;
- Translation of research into multimodal products (including audio-visual and narrative) to enhance its accessibility to different stakeholders
- Manage all digital platforms of the HSRC, and ensure strong digital media engagement on the campaign's social media pages, with positive year-on-year growth
- Identify suitable organisational information and interpreting such for a range of external audiences and using a variety of communication products, from presentations to factsheets to multimedia products or advertising, etc.
- Interpret, formulate and communicate HSRC strategies for external audiences;
- Take strong leadership and co-accountability for positioning of the HSRC brand through central activities overseen by the media and events teams.
- Build and maintaining relationships with media partners
- Manage the implementation and evaluation of an effective internal and external communication business plan in line with the Communication and Digital strategy.
