USER EXPERIENCE LIBRARIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

- Designing studies focusing on user behaviour to enhance experiences;
- Iterating design solutions, and creating prototypes for user testing;
- Planning and executing usability testing and creating user journey maps across various tasks and platforms to enhance experiences while monitoring user behaviours and preferences;
- Engaging in co-creation by positioning users at the core of the study, actively involving them as participants in the development process;
- Identifying project priorities and team members.
- Analysing and synthesising research findings into actionable recommendations;
- Collaborating across DLS units to identify relevant user studies and research themes;
- Advocating for user experience research and user-centred design across all library operations;
- Providing project management support to teams engaged in user experience research and design initiatives;
- Collaborating with other researchers, designers, and product managers in collaborative efforts within the institution and beyond;
- Partnering with web software developers to articulate design needs accurately;
- Performing user research to guide marketing strategies and communication channels tailored to user preferences;
- Preparing and managing effective project budgets.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor's in Information Science, Psychology, or related field and a UX/UI design qualification PLUS three years’ experience in conducting user experience research.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

- Knowledge of UX research methodologies;
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods;
- Understanding of accessibility principles and guidelines;
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate research data effectively;
- Proficiency in UX design tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, or Figma;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively;
- Knowledge or experience of customer experience;
- Good outreach and communication skills.

- Experience in a higher education institution.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
