**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Support and participate in the development of Occupational Health and Safety policies and programs (SHEQ Policies, SHEQ Plans, Safe Operating Procedures (SOP’s)).
- Participate and advise in conducting appropriate suitable and sufficient risk assessments and enforce implementation thereto.
- Provide SHEQ support by ensuring core processes/ departments/ contractors/ outsourced service operations meet SHEQ requirements and changes are managed effectively for continual compliance.
- Give direction on the duties of the organisation in terms of legal requirements and ensure that legal appointments are in place and maintained for all responsible persons carrying out work.
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related aspects (noise levels, occupational exposure limits, workplace hygiene, medical surveillance, use of machinery, safe/unsafe behaviours/conditions etc.)
- Initiate and organise training needs for operational employees and line management in your area of responsibility.
- Conduct safety file compliance audits and advise on required actions to maintain the required standard of above 95% on all site file audits.
- Ensure all conducted inspections and audits are actioned and closed out within the stipulated time, signed off by relevant management and records filed on the mySHEQ system.
- Ensure monthly registers are up to date and any new equipment brought into the area is approved for use and added to the register.
- Where necessary, escalate safety inspections/ audits with senior management for appropriate action if you see constant failure on managing findings at site level.
- Champion departmental/ district safety meetings in your area and ensure recording of meeting minutes, distribution to interested parties and filing as documented records on the mySHEQ system.
- Attend and participate in SHEQ Department internal audits to meet the requirements of ISO standards.
- Oversee and give guidance on the safe handling of chemicals, conveyances, and appropriate disposal of waste and contaminated material with regard to environmental legislations.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous to the safety of persons and property or detrimental to the environment.
- Conduct on-the-job training to support the operational team and advise for further training where you see the need.
- Record and investigate incidents and non-conformities to determine causes and implement appropriate correction or corrective action to avoid reoccurrence and continual improvement.
- You will also be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies in line with company standards and those of various clients/ sites in your area of responsibility.
- Ensure that emergency plans and preparedness are tested, results recorded, and performance improved continually. That emergency equipment and administrative controls are adequate.
- Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings as arranged in the company and participate towards organisational improvement.
- Attend client’s safety meetings regularly to familiarise yourself with client’s safety standards, any changes, trends etc.
- You are required to observe any new developments and instructions issued within the organisation, from clients and other recognised interested parties in the interest of SHEQ.
- Keep abreast of changes to legislation and advise the necessary requirements to ensure legal compliance.
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide information to respective area management and to the SHEQ Manager.
- Prepare weekly/ monthly safety reports and submit timeously to your manager (SHEQ Manager).
- Ensure your input and administration of the mySHEQ system is in accordance to meet the SHEQ objectives of the organisation and is maintained effectively. Present mySHEQ reports and any other SHEQ outputs required by the organisation or client(s) to management weekly.
- Monitor and measure performance results of the site teams SHEQ deliverables, and SHEQ programs/promotions. (Leading Indicators, Planned Task Observations (PTO’s), Visible Felt Leadership (VFL), Quality Assurance).
