The School of Applied Human Sciences offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes

in core and specialized areas within four large and complementary applied scientific fields of

study, namely, Culture, Communication and Media Studies; Criminology and Forensic Studies;
Psychology; and Social Work. The School also has a number of specialized research projects.

The incumbent will be required to teach at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in

research and supervise student research projects at all post-graduate levels. S/he will also be

expected to contribute to other programmes and activities offered in the Discipline, including,

but not limited to casework supervision; academic administration, leadership and mentoring;
and community engagement.

**Minimum Requirements: Professor**
- A doctoral qualification in Psychology.
- A professional Masters degree in Counselling Psychology.
- At least nine (9) years working experience as a scholar (either lecturing, doing research,

or working in industry) in the relevant field.
- Evidence of publication in high impact and Leading journals.
- Evidence of an excellent and sustained track record of research and publication

averaging a career total of 31-40 peer reviewed journal articles/book chapters/books or

equivalent in DHET and SAPSE accredited outlets
- Track record of recent successful supervision of Masters and PhD students as per Senate

Norms for the last nine years
- Evidence of sustained record of attracting and winning of substantial research grants as

PI (or Co-PI) from external sources.
- Evidence of sustained level of leadership within the School/College/University (e.g. co
- ordination of postgraduate cohorts, discipline leader, mentoring of early career

academics, research leader, leader of task team, audit process, curriculum

transformation, etc)
- Evidence of track record of active and impactful participation in major

academic/discipline related advisory bodies or agencies (e.g. NRF,

publication/scholarship, NGO, or professional bodies, etc).
- Evidence of participating in the planning/organizing of conferences
- Evidence of international collaborations through joint publications; evidence of

international collaborations and other scholarly engagements such as examinations of

theses, dissertations, joint publications, joint research 3rd stream income generation,

success and development of institutional MoUs
- Evidence of community engagement activities that have impact to communities

external to the university
- Evidence of academic citizenship through academic contributions such as delivery of

key-note addresses, development of policy and research briefs, or development of

practice guidelines that contributes to enhancing your profile
- Evidence of successful, and verifiable, mentorship of emerging scholars
- Evidence of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a

Counselling Psychologist.
- At least 3 years of practice experience post-HPCSA registration as a Counselling

Psychologist.

- A doctoral qualification in Psychology.
- A professional Masters degree in Counselling Psychology.
- At least six (6) years working and relevant experience in either teaching, Lecturing,

Research or Industry
- Evidence of a record of research and publication averaging career total of between 18
- 30 peer-reviewed journal articles/book chapters/books or equivalent in DoHET and SAPSE

accredited outlets
- Sustained track record of successful supervision of Masters and PhDs student for the last

five (5) years
- Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of research grants from external sources.
- Evidence of participating in international research projects and collaborative initiatives
- Evidence of providing service in leadership position/s (academic leader of discipline,

programme coordinator, etc)
- Evidence of having developed links with relevant industries and external bodies to

encourage knowledge/technology transfer opportunities and creating of opportunities

for future research projects
- Evidence of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a

Counselling Psychologist.
