Duties/Pligte
- Contextualising global and regional human resource priorities for the Higher Education Sector, specifically as it applies to Stellenbosch University.
- Engaging with institutional priorities and taking forward institutional objectives in a focused and proactive manner.
- Providing strategic vision and leadership to the human resource function and managing the Division.
- Advancing transformation imperatives of the University aligned to the University's Transformation Plan.
- Providing leadership in the development and implementation of human resource strategies.
- Developing and implementing the University's human resource policies, processes, procedures, and systems in compliance with relevant legislation.
- Advising the executive and senior management of the University to ensure institutional compliance of human resources matters with the relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks in which the University functions.
- Responsible for the administration, governance, and operational delivery of the human resource function in its entirety.
- Developing a culture of staff wellbeing to enable optimal performance for operational excellence.
- Developing effective collaborative relationships and networking with all internal clients and external stakeholders.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
**Qualification and Experience -**
- A postgraduate qualification.
- An experienced human resources leader with a minimum of ten years' relevant experience, of which at least five years' experience must be at a senior and / or strategic management level.
**Knowledge and Competency -**
- An established track-record of working with senior management in a large organisation.
- Excellent participative management and leadership skills with the ability to empower and motivate a team of human resource professionals through leadership, developing a positive and high-performance culture in a participative, consensual environment.
- Executive functional knowledge of human resources.
- Knowledge of the Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act, Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and other applicable human resources legislation.
- Excellent judgement, critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations.
- The forward-thinking ability to lead significant organisational change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-pressure matrix environment which requires strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to represent the University externally.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the business drivers of the institution and to contribute to the future strategic and business evolution of the institution.
- The ability to function effectively in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
**Term(s) of appointment**: Five years with the possibility of reappointment for further term(s). The official retirement age at Stellenbosch University is 65 years.
