Legal Compliance Coordinator

**MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
To provide expert legal counsel and support involved in property transactions, disputes, and related matters. This position requires a deep understanding of South African property laws and regulations, as well as the ability to navigate complex legal scenarios.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure adherence to all relevant South African laws and regulations pertaining to property transactions.
- Stay updated on changes in legislation and proactively implement necessary adjustments to company policies and procedures.
- Staying updated on the latest industry trends, regulatory updates, and legal developments in South Africa.
- Stays abreast of relevant industry risk management best practices and legislative amendments and suggests ways to leverage these to ensure continuous improvement.
- Review and draft property-related contracts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to create standardized templates for property transactions.
- Drafting and review of contracts - commercial offers to lease & lease agreements, service & supply agreements including service levels, settlement agreements, logistics & transport provider agreements, employment & independent contractor agreements, etc. This requires collaboration with various stakeholders in the business to understand the goal of the contract, analyse the agreement, provide insights to mitigate risks & comprehend legal consequences.
- Drafting & facilitating legal correspondence - such as, letters of demand, customer service responses & regulatory body responses, etc.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on acquisitions to identify and address potential legal and compliance risks.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to obtain necessary information for due diligence processes.
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date repository of legal
- Implement efficient document control processes to ensure accessibility and accuracy of records.
- Maintaining contract register, ensuring that contracts & expiry dates are recorded & monitored in conjunction with various stakeholders.
- Manage lease renewals and negations with landlords pertaining to the renewals of leases.
- Prepare regular reports on compliance metrics and key performance indicators
- Communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and other relevant stakeholders
- Assist in internal and external audits related.
- Collaborate with auditors to provide necessary documentation and address any identified compliance issues.
- Develop tactical strategy and delivery plans in support of functional strategic objectives in partnership with leadership
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
- Bachelor’s degree in law with a focus on property law
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar compliance role within the property sector
- Thorough knowledge of South African property laws and regulations
- Any leasing, retail or property experience would be an advantage
