**CORE PURPOSE OF JOB**: ( **why it exists and what its major expected end results)**

**Key role to; ** i. To assist and ensure that the organisation is conducting its business in full compliance with all laws and regulations that pertain to the health industry, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal policies and standards. ii. To manage designated activities and tasks in the Risk & Compliance Department which are necessary to meet the Risk & Compliance objectives and Processes. iii. To provide a healthier assessment of the risk management policies and protocols in order to come up with policies and recommendations to avoid threats, reduce or transfer risks and/or mitigate the effects of those which are essentially unavoidable. The responsibility includes managing the risks associated to the organization, employees, customers, reputation, assets and interests of stakeholders. iv. To ensure compliance to the quality standards of the organisation.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. To develop and implement the overall risk and compliance management strategy and process for the organization;
2. Conducts risk assessments, which involves analysing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimate the risks affecting the organization;
3. Prepares risk evaluation, which involves comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organization such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors and evaluating the organization’s ‘risk appetite’, i.e. the level of risk they are prepared to accept;
4. Prepares risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences, for example, to the Executive

Committee or the Board of Trustees, so they understand the most significant risks, to business heads to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their parts of the business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks;
5. Handles corporate governance involving external risk reporting to stakeholders;
6. Implementing health and safety measures and making business continuity plans, to limit risks and prepare for if things go wrong;
7. Ensures the Board of Directors, management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behaviour in the organization meets the company's Standards of Conduct.

8. Conducts internal review and audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors;
9. To implement the Information Officer responsibilities as prescribed by the POPI Act.

10. Provides support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organization.

11. Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**

1) Degree in Commerce, Accounting/Finance/Risk (or similar);(Please specify if there is a specific

Degree required)

2) Membership with relevant Recognised Professional body

3) 5 - 7 years’ experience in similar role or managing risk and compliance activities;
4) Reliability, honesty, integrity and trust;
5) A person who either already has or will rapidly obtain intimate understanding for the healthcare business processes;
6) The ability to identify problems and what needs to correct it;
7) The ability to ‘Constructively argue’ issues with management and convince them to promptly implement and/or adhere to changes made as a result of required improvements identified during the audit process;
8) Maturity - A person who will command respect and who is prepared to assertively exercise his/her powers when the need requires it.

9) The ability to ‘stand firm” and resist changes suggested by people who don’t understand the business and whose ideas, if implemented will weaken the ability for the organisation to be managed in a proper manner

10) Knowledge of Healthcare industry regulatory framework will be an added advantage.
