**About Us**:

**To be considered you need the following**:
**Qualifications**:

- BSc degree or higher in Ecology and Conservation, Agronomy, Natural Resource Management and planning, Climate Change and Development or in a field related.

**Professional Experience**:
Qualification should be enhanced by five(5) years’ relevant working experience with a good understanding of the following:

- 5 years of professional experience in climate change/ landscape management planning and strategy development
- Knowledge and experience advising government on topics of planning and policy development at the national level, and preferably also at the local level.
- Specific knowledge in rangeland restoration and climate smart pasture and livestock management is an advantage.
- Existing networks in the agricultural sector, international development partners, NGOs, community development, government or local authorities.
- 5 years of experience of managing contracts, small projects, events, or processes independently.
- Experience in preparing and conducting stakeholder engagement sessions with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience of working in a team environment

- South African national or person with residency/work permit in South Africa
- Fluent written and oral knowledge of English. Knowledge of Afrikaans would be an advantage.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and independently.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the SADC region.
- Self-motivated, organized and pro-active team player with excellent output.

**WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING**:

- Contract management: prepare tenders and manages consulting contracts and grant agreements with public and civil society partners
- Support preparation of project related meetings, workshops and events and facilitate their implementation (e.g. Steering and Planning Meetings, Meetings with consortium and partners)
- Supporting the project manager (DV) in the execution of other activities outside of the main responsibilities
- Liaise with relevant Government partners at Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in South Africa
- Establish and contribute to a monitoring system with consortium partners in the four countries and ensure monitoring of relevant data for reporting
- Support reporting to the Regional Project Coordination Unit in Botswana

**And...**
- Support all operational planning workshops of the IKI Growing Greener project in South Africa, together with other partner countries and implementing partners
- Coordinate activities on “strengthening an enabling policy framework for sustainable land use” for the South Africa component of the project
- Support on the development and implementation of national policy frameworks relevant to the promotion of rangeland management and sustainable land-use practices.
- Support with capacity building and knowledge management measures that enable learning between the project sites in the four countries
- Cooperate and coordinate activities with the Department Conservation South Africa (and Conservation International) and related projects of other development partners
- Travel to target site for stakeholder meetings, partner support and site visits. Site visits may be extended site visits depending on requirements from projects partners
- Prepare communication materials such as project fact sheets, power point presentations for experts in the field as well as non-experts (e.g., for exchange with farmers in the landscape)

**More about the Project**:
South Africa faces development challenges linked to unemployment and poverty as well as issues of poaching, unsustainable land use change and climate change impacts. The project “Growing Greener” aims to implement activities in the arid Namaqualand region due to its unique biodiversity, high socio-economic vulnerability, and opportunities for a just transition towards climate resilience and sustainable socio-economic systems. This makes it a priority to introduce sustainable land and livestock management for conservation and livelihood development. The area is sparsely populated and has rainfall ranging from 150 to 450 mm/year. Agriculture is mainly livestock-based, mostly goats and sheep.
