In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group. The cluster focusses on retail products, as well as group schemes. What will you do?

Identify and implement initiatives that drive operational efficiencies
Design tools and resources aiding process enablement and discovery of process risks
Collaborate, co-ordinate and negotiate with other teams
Interpret and action strategic business goals
Communicate insights to senior management
Build business cases and get buy-in from senior stakeholders
Lead projects
Work directly with your stakeholders to gather business requirements
Make data easily accessible for users through dashboards and report automation
Capitalize on data by transforming it into business insights which will contribute to making business decisions

Key Deliverables

The Business Insights Strategy Manager will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
Strategy Development and Implementation
Provide reports and analysis to support and contribute to the development of the functional strategy in line with the overarching business goals
Ensure accurate and timely reporting to enable the regular review of the functional strategy, roadmap and performance to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem

Operational Delivery

Drive a Business Insights Strategy roadmap; prioritize business insight requests to balance the tactical and strategic information needs
Drive elicitation and review business reporting and analytic requirements from the Business through formal requirements or facilitated sessions and translate into technical designs for BI & MIS implementation
Work with internal stakeholders in identifying and prioritizing requirements; understanding processes and deliver custom reports
Mine data from database tables (Data mining and B.I Tools, Oracle/SQL, Data Warehouse)
Develop BI content (reports, dashboards, scorecards, analytic solutions to provide data necessary to effectively make business decisions and measure goal attainment and overall performance
Collate business intelligence data through public information, industry and field reports, or purchased sources, to provide outside in view to the business teams
Monitor and report on the competitor and customer landscape across the Insurance/ SRM footprint
Establish intuitive reporting methodologies, perform ad-hoc market analysis as required to support Business’s strategy and analyse performance
Drive the automation of key measurement metrics and MIS reports
Develop complex macros, algorithms, and other automation processes to facilitate data mining and analysis
Responsible to implement MIS dashboard templates that translate raw data into insightful and actionable information to enable users to take actions more effectively
Contribute to the business results by creating world-class metrics, analysis, visualizations, and data-driven storytelling
Collaborate with Data Architecture and Data Engineering teams
Establish and meet required SLAs and TAT for requirements

Performance

Ensure execution in alignment with functional strategy
Continuous performance monitoring and adjust strategy and actions to deliver targets
Report on a periodic basis relating to progress made within the function and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications & experience
Matric
4-year Business Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science (or related) Degree
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial services, consulting, strategy, analytics, engineering, or related industry
At least 2-3 years’ experience in a similar position within a multi-country environment
Experience in Fintech, banking or financial services is preferred
Working experience in BI, customer insight or data analytics related senior role
Knowledge of modern Big Data platforms and Open-Source solutions to database, data analysis, and data management
Deep knowledge and experience in data reporting/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
Deep knowledge and experience in data analytics tools (SQL, Python, SAS, etc.)
Experience working in a medium to large organization
