Our client produces a specialised line of cement-based coatings, polymer paints and building materials to complete and support construction projects. Since its inception half a century ago, the company has grown from strength to strength now manufacturing over 70 products and employing around 120 staff members. They are eager to welcome a Chemist with experience in the cementitious and paint polymer field to their close-knit team.

**Position details**:
Type: Permanent

Role Outcomes:
Quality control and / or analysis of all custom and non-conforming production batches.

Development of new and / or refined products as per the strategic plan, or customer needs.

Timely formulation of customer product colour-matching requirements.

Sign an NDA upon employment.

**Responsibilities**:
Develop and modify new and existing formulations and technologies for improved product performance, adaption for raw material changes and/or cost reduction to meet our customers’ needs.

Ensure all products meet the appropriate statutory standards for Safety, Health, Quality, and the environment for their intended target markets.

Prepare product samples for testing.

Identify and implement process improvements for routine laboratory testing.

Effective use of project management techniques to drive projects to successful completion.

Prepare specifications for raw materials and formulas and the periodic evaluation of raw materials.

Accurate documentation of formulations and the secure storage management thereof and all other company intellectual property.

Maintain an effective laboratory, including good housekeeping, health & safety compliance and equipment servicing, calibration and repair.

Perform Ad hoc tasks as assigned by Technical Director.

**Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience**:
Requirements - Skills & experience:
Good spoken and written English. (Spoken Afrikaans an advantage)

Matric / Grade 12.

5 years R&D experience in the fields of cement and paint polymers, particularly in product development and product refinement.

National Diploma in Chemistry, or similar qualification.

Experience in Chemical & Coatings industry preferred.

Project management training or experience an advantage.

Sound report writing skills - business English.

Valid driver’s license, and own vehicle.
