Job title : Intellectual Integrity Officer (Part-Time)

Job Location : Gauteng, Johannesburg

Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluation and Decision-Making: Receive and evaluate assessments flagged for plagiarism, academic dishonesty, or unethical use of AI to determine appropriate penalties, focusing on upskilling students in a supportive manner.
  2. Evaluate the nature of academic transgressions in relation to assessment instructions, adhering to relevant institutional policies.
  3. Utilize similarity and AI detector tools, such as Turnitin, for thorough analysis of assignments and interpretation of reports.
  4. Maintain accurate records on MS Excel trackers and other institutional academic tracking systems.
  5. Select appropriate communication to be sent to students regarding resubmission and academic integrity interventions.
  6. Ensure accurate communication is sent to relevant stakeholders, compliant with relevant policies, including the POPI Act.
  7. Record errant students in the institutional administrative system and track re-submissions.
  8. Refer cases of intentional academic dishonesty or repeat plagiarism to the Campus Disciplinary Officer (CDO) with comprehensive case evidence.
  9. Track adherence to academic integrity policies across all faculties.
Training and Development:
  1. Liaise with the Teaching and Learning Specialist to promote Intellectual Integrity across the campus.
  2. Coordinate with Information Specialists and Writing Centre Student Consultants to implement academic writing and integrity workshops.
  3. Provide training and support to academic lecturing teams in promoting academic honesty and managing academic dishonesty.
  4. Offer intellectual integrity and academic writing support to students to prepare flagged assignments for resubmission.

These developmental sessions will focus on accessing credible resources, analyzing and synthesizing information, paraphrasing, referencing, and ethical use of AI.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  1. Well-developed academic writing skills.
  2. Proficiency in MS Office (specifically MS Excel), data tracking, PDF compilers, and document management.
  3. Strong communication skills for interacting with students, lecturers, and administrators.
  4. Strong administration skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  5. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret academic tools and reports.
  6. Skilled in utilizing similarity and AI detector platforms (e.g., Turnitin).
  7. Proficiency in academic/learning management systems and understanding of academic integrity policies.
  8. Tertiary lecturing and marking experience would be an advantage.
