People Business Partner
PLEASE NOTE: This role is a 6-month fixed term contract (maternity leave cover) and is based at our office in Stellenbosch, 5 days a week.
PayProp and Reapit – Who are we?
PayProp, a Reapit company, offers a tech platform for letting agents that lets them automate every part of the rental transaction. PayProp is easier to use and more powerful than solutions by banks and traditional software vendors.
We're a seasoned team of professionals with expertise in property, banking, finance, risk management and technology, as well as building and managing highly secure cloud-based Web applications.
Worldwide, Reapit technology is used by over 78,000 agents in more than 15,000 branches, with over a million properties under management; enabling them to run their businesses, identify opportunities for growth, manage their properties, collect rent, communicate with their clients, and deliver an outstanding customer experience, every time.
What you'll be doing
The People Business Partner works closely with our regional leadership team and our Chief People Officer to provide a customer-centric service to our leaders, managers, and employees. As the People Business Partner, you will play a critical role in aligning people strategies with global and regional objectives – including compliance with the South African Employment Equity Act, driving organisational effectiveness, and fostering a positive work culture within the region.
This is the first office-based People role in South Africa, so it is a great opportunity to develop the role and build a strong people partnership with the team. It will be very much stand-alone during the maternity cover period so will include some cross over into People Operations areas, such as onboarding, offboarding, benefit administration, payroll and recruitment.
Reporting to the Chief People Officer you'll:
- Partner with regional leadership teams and the Chief People Officer to understand business goals, challenges, and talent needs, and identify potential action plans to support them.
- Provide coaching and guidance on people-related matters, including performance management, employee relations, talent development, and succession planning. When providing advice, always ensuring that employment legislation and locally prescribed People Policies are balanced alongside a commercial approach.
- Collaborate and work closely with the People Team to implement and drive consistent people programmes, policies, and initiatives across the region.
- Support the business in driving and managing change to ensure that teams continue to operate effectively.
- Assist with reward, promotion, and talent decisions effectively within the region, ensuring alignment with global strategies while adhering to local People policies, laws and regulations. Taking accountability to ensure decisions are accurately captured and processed.
- Assist with organisational design, restructures, and strategic workforce planning reviews.
- Assist with talent management processes – 9 box grid assessments, development plans and actions resulting from talent reviews.
- Analyse HR metrics and data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and provide recommendations to regional leadership and VP, People.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain top talent within the region, working to ensure alignment with the Group's diversity profile improves in line with global diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy while meeting local regulatory compliance and affirmative action requirements.
- Deliver briefing sessions to managers on people-related life cycle events: hiring, onboarding, career discussions, reward, career pathways etc.
- Assist with integration process of acquired companies within the region, ensuring smooth transitions and alignment with the company's culture and policies.
- Foster a positive work culture by promoting diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being initiatives within the region.
Who we're looking for
- Solid experience as a People Business Partner, preferably working in a global technology organisation and ability to implement global policies taking into consideration local requirements.
- Previous experience in successfully integrating acquired companies and managing change within a matrix environment.
- Strong coaching and consulting skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Solid understanding and experience of supporting employees in South Africa and having strong employment law and compliance knowledge.
- Ability to analyse and apply South African employment equity strategies and guide hiring managers through talent acquisition processes, including advising on and tracking progress against established recruitment targets.
- Experience in managing complex employment equity exceptions processes (deviations from the official Employment Equity Plan in South Africa), addressing concerns, and providing quarterly updates on workforce composition to the Legal, Compliance, and Risk team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, confident and credible in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with the local and global People Team to support the team in South Africa, North America and Canada when required.
- Work closely with global team and ensure relevant people are informed and consulted to adopt an integrated and cohesive approach to delivery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Solution orientated with a lively, energetic and positive outlook. Pragmatic and resourceful with the ability to adapt quickly to different, changing situations and personalities.
- Proficient in HRIS systems such as HiBob and Go1 and MS Office Suite.
- Ability to tackle issues and situations head on with confidence, enthusiasm and a supportive nature, escalating where necessary.
What your impact and success looks like
As a People Business Partner, we expect your success and impact in the early stages of your career with us to look something like this:
Within 1 month:
- Familiarise yourself with company policies and procedures.
- Connect with all stakeholders.
- Understand the key objectives and challenges for the region.
Within 3 months:
- Present a People update at the quarterly leadership meeting.
- Embed our values into daily activities and "one company" culture across the region.
- Roll out career levelling across the region.
Within 6 months:
- Develop action plans for employee engagement.
- Develop strong relationships and be an integral part of the South African, North American and Canadian leadership teams.
What's in it for you?
This role is based in our Stellenbosch office, 5 days a week.
We're offering the chance to really make a difference here at Reapit and the opportunity for personal growth is very real. You'll feel part of a special team. You can expect a highly competitive salary and some great benefits.
Don't tick all the boxes? Neither do we
We care about our industry and want it to become a more inclusive and diverse place to work. So, we're driven by hiring not only by experience and relevance for the role but by sharing our values and the right attitudes and behaviours for success.
We are committed to Equal Employment Opportunity through attracting and retaining a complementary team of employees and building an inclusive environment for all.
We feel we have an empowering environment where everyone is supported and respected, and we want you to feel this too. We welcome new ideas, thinking and approaches, whilst listening to all our employees.
