Sales Representative

Solar Cluster is seeking a sales representative to help grow our business in the Commercial Renewable Sector, focusing on both PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) and outright purchases.
The sales representative will have a strong understanding of the sales process and excel at generating leads, building relationships, and closing deals. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with strong negotiating skills and an ability to showcase our offerings compellingly. This role involves giving presentations and attending networking events and trade shows, requiring a personable and professional demeanor.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesJob requires taking ownership of the following responsibilities:
- Achieve sales targets by generating revenue through effective sales strategies.
- Obtain new clients within the PPA sector.
- Perform cost-benefit and needs analysis of existing/potential customers.
- Manage the entire sales process from lead generation to closing, including prospecting, sales pitch, client visits, proposal generation, and contract negotiations.
- Develop strong business relationships with key industry players to drive growth.
- Implement sales strategies and initiatives to meet business objectives.
- Work closely with marketing and other departments to generate leads.
- Drive the process to guarantee a deal's success working with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the engineering team and support functions to ensure client satisfaction and timely project delivery.
- Assist with Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) applications.
- Utilize and update the company's CRM tool.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction throughout the sales and construction period.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
- Resolve customer problems and complaints to maximize satisfaction.
- Provide management with reports on customer needs, problems, and potential for new products and services.
- Establish and maintain positive business and customer relationships.
- Analyze sales metrics and trends to determine the effectiveness of sales strategies.
- Create and maintain a prospect list to ensure a healthy pipeline.
- Report sales performance and provide regular updates to management.
- Update the CRM tool to reflect sales activities.
- Track opportunities won/lost and the reasons.
- Gather market intelligence and stay updated on industry trends.
- Analyze competitors and identify opportunities to differentiate products and services.
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks.
- Experience in creating, selling, and communicating techno-commercial proposals to non-technical clients.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with proficiency in English required; Afrikaans or African languages are a plus.
- Customer service skills to address customer concerns.
- Interpersonal skills to build relationships and network.
- Confidence and strong self-assuredness in customer interactions.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, or Engineering with sales experience).
- Existing network of potential clients and partners in the commercial & industrial sector in South Africa.
- Understanding of solar financial products.
- Financial modeling and commercial contract understanding.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- South African Citizenship, clear criminal record, and valid driver's license.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in sales.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets in renewable energy, infrastructure, finance, or related industries.
- Comfortable working in the digital realm, utilizing tools such as CRM, Google, MS Office, Teams/Zoom, LinkedIn.
