Primary purpose of the job: Reporting to the Chairman of the ECIC Board of Directors, the incumbent will provide strategic leadership to the Corporation by driving the implementation of business goals and plans to ensure achievement of the Corporation's mandate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Determine the Corporation's strategic direction in collaboration with the Board and oversee the implementation of the Corporate Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure corporate performance whilst observing the rules, norms and values governing business processes and functions.
  • Contribute and support the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition trade facilitation programs and objectives where applicable.
  • Develop strategies to facilitate the underwriting of export credit loans and investments outside South Africa to promote South African exports.
  • Active engagement with key stakeholders to effectively execute the Corporation's mandate.
  • Design and implement programmes that enhance ECIC in the context of African Continental Free Trade Agreement Area (AfCFTA).
  • Management of organisational risks, in line with the applicable standards.

Key strategic challenges:

  • Growth in business underwritten which will result in the substantial growth of ECIC's insurance portfolio and help to generate economic impact and job creation.
  • Strong revenue generation and financial sustainability.
  • Managing different stakeholders e.g. governments, shareholders, lenders/investors and exporters to promote the corporation's services and products.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum qualification: a post-graduate university degree with specialisation in commercial or technical discipline including but not limited to Economics, Accountancy, Finance, Banking, Science, Law or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in a senior leadership role in an organization of comparable size and complexity is a pre-requisite.
  • Banking experience and Development Finance experience is required. Insurance experience is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of the business of Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) is an added advantage.
  • Experience in working with international/multilateral financial agencies such as the World Bank will be beneficial.
  • Demonstrates strong ethical leadership and 360-degree stakeholder management and engagement.
