We are seeking an Independent Director (Legal) to help shape the future of this corporation, by supporting us to make legal decisions in the best interest of our members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Uphold high standards of corporate governance
  2. Contribute to the development and execution of the organisation's strategic plan
  3. Provide objective guidance and innovative thinking to address legal challenges and capitalise on opportunities
  4. Monitor progress toward the achievement of strategic plan
  5. Evaluate documents within the corporation and associated entities
  6. Ensure the organisation's sustainability by identifying and managing legal risks effectively

How to apply:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Previous directorship on aboriginal corporations is preferred but not essential.
  2. Experience in native title legal practice and Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs), including their application within Aboriginal Corporations.
  3. Experience in negotiating or managing such agreements is highly valued.
  4. Candidate must demonstrate expertise in corporate governance, policy and compliance, with the ability to provide strategic direction and support effective decision-making.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with indigenous communities & organisations.
  6. The applicant must not be a native title holder, member of the corporation or have family or business ties with the community.
