Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Head of Department Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification. A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years' experience as a Senior Lecturer. The 5 years mentioned above must include 2 years' management experience related to the functions of a HOD (academic management; curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a Department). Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above Senior Lecturer Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification. A base qualification Chemistry or equivalent qualification At least 4 years' relevant working experience, which must include two years teaching experience in Chemistry at the Higher Education level Research and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional requirements Experience in curriculum development Industry experience will be an added advantage Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Head of Department Academic instruction Research and post graduate supervision Academic management and administration Budget and financial management Human resources management Leadership in research activities in the department Community engagement and industry alliance & partnerships Professional / personal development and implementation Safety management Project management Policy development and implementation Create a vision and provide leadership to the Department Foster excellence and harmonious delivery of university teaching, research, service mandates and expectations Any other responsibilities assigned by the Dean Senior Lecturer Teach Analytical Chemistry courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels Supervise undergraduate final year research projects and postgraduate students Monitor and assess Work Integrated Learning Develop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content) Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department Participate in curriculum development Participate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department Competencies Head of Department Technical / Professional knowledge and skills Leadership and decision making skills Excellent command of English language and communication Good organizational and time management skills Coaching and Mentoring skills Teamwork and cooperation Quality of Work and Reliability Support of diversity Customer service Flexibility in a changing environment Senior Lecturer Strong oral and written communication skills Organisational and planning skills Technical / professional knowledge and skills Good interpersonal and high-level presentation and facilitation skills Good administrative skills Coaching and Mentoring skills Teamwork and co-operation Strong learner focus and adaptability Quality-oriented work ethic General computer skills (MS Office, Internet, email) Adaptability and willingness to innovate Administrative skills Research and academic writing skills Proficiency in English #J-18808-Ljbffr
