Foci Group is seeking a dynamic Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects across its subsidiaries. This key role goes beyond technical design, the Project Engineer will act as a project lead, problem-solver and strategic contributor , ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical competence, initiative and strong organisational skills , with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment focused on innovation and operational excellence. Responsibilities Develop engineering brief (scoping, technical specification, standards). Provide continuous technical support, auditing for the life cycle of the project and conduct post implementation audits. Generate technical and operational specifications to support tender and request for proposals. Ensure effective and compliant contract management and that work is executed in accordance with contract (time frame, SLA, Scope, quality, budget, contractors). Perform quality inspection on work done and implement / propose remedial action where necessary. Determine, as part of cross-functional team, evaluation criteria and participate in evaluation and award of bids / tenders received. Manage the development of a detailed project plan by consolidating the project requirements, considering costs and expenditures and expected timescales. Provides guiding direction and ultimate oversight of engineering engagements. Sets direction and goals for technology and / or market by developing high-quality business strategies and plans in collaboration with the Executive Team and business line Heads. Accountable for designated business performance (financial and non-financial). Management of Construction Contracts as Engineer. To develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans. Completing technical studies and preparing cost estimates. Management of projects from inception through to client delivery. Analysis of risks and project status reporting to management. Technical reviews of workflows and technical instructions. Testing and commissioning procedure development and implementation thereof. Demonstrates a high level of problem-solving ability, strong negotiation skills and tenacity. Proactively challenges assumptions, identifies underlying issues and drives effective solutions. Conduct site visits and provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and handover phases. Manage documentation, including project reports, progress updates, and change control. Identify technical risks and propose mitigation measures. Support procurement processes by evaluating technical submissions and vendor capabilities. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and project optimization. Contribute towards contractor vendor selection and approval. Manage relationship with the client (invoicing, deadline, milestone, turnover etc). Ad hoc tasks as requested by management. Comply with company HR Policy and Procedures manual. Project Management Project Planning and Execution : Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, to ensure successful delivery of engineering projects. Define all the project execution scopes, work breakdown structures, schedules, objectives, method statements, project risks involving all relevant stakeholders after receiving a detailed handover from the Technical sales team related to all the group products. Regulatory Compliance : Ensure all projects adhere to relevant regulations and other industry-specific standards, maintaining documentation for audits and inspections. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance, to align project objectives with business goals. Risk Management : Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement corrective actions to minimize disruptions. Maintain monthly overview of services budget, monitor variations, and ensure cost control on projects, timely invoicing on services projects. Ensure that all projects are delivered on‑time, within scope and within budget. Define and coordinate internal resources and third parties / vendors for the flawless execution of projects. Budget and Cost Control : Monitor project expenditures, ensuring adherence to budgets and identifying cost‑saving opportunities without compromising quality. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate project documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and progress reports, and provide regular updates to management and stakeholders. Conduct an assessment on project pre‑feasibility, strategic value and importance and related risk analysis as an input into project prioritization. Mobilize project team, develop a Work Breakdown Structure and request a provisional team schedule from the PMO. Monitor and control project work including scope and cost control, review of team deliverables, quality control with assistance from PMO and resource management. Provide input to CAPEX / OPEX budget for internal projects. Provide direction, guidance and support to project team members and share knowledge and expertise required for optimal project delivery. Co‑ordinating the efforts of other project staff to meet project schedules and deliverables. Monitoring and controlling of project costs related to capital and manhours. Liaising directly with clients on project issues. Accountable for preparation and maintenance of overall project schedules. Accountable for preparation and maintenance of overall cost plan. Scheduling of meetings. Responsible for recording and issuing of minutes of project and client meetings. Preparation of monthly project status report. Management of ad hoc problems during project execution and implementation of suitable contingency plans. Oversee multi‑disciplinary project teams responsible for the installation & commissioning of equipment according to company standards, within safety, quality, budget, time and scope targets. Measure and report on project performance using appropriate tools and techniques. Perform internal risk management to minimize project risks. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation. Ability to execute functions of Senior Discipline Engineer when project structure does not have this resource. Coordinate ad‑hoc internal projects when required. Engineering and Construction Conduct project feasibility studies for engineering and construction projects, preparing documentation, drawings and recommendation for execution of project. Submit and obtain local authorities required approvals, prepare and obtain approval for internal Management of Change documentations. Guide the draughtsman and or consultants in preparation of the construction drawings. Participate in negotiation for the supply of equipment and engineering contracts with the service providers, in collaboration with the Procurement Project Team. Plan, organize, control and execute field construction activities, within the given time and budget. Be responsible for incorporation of local legislation requirements, company standards and best practices to all engineering and construction projects. Proficient knowledge of ERP / CRM (e.g., Dynamics / Zoho), Adobe / PDF tools for form filling and packaging, experience with vendor portals (NT eTender, municipal / provincial portals, state‑owned entities, OEM partner portals). Ability to perform detailed engineering tasks and analysis Excellent interpersonal, communication, and multi‑tasking skills Initiative, independence, self‑discipline, structure, and organization Pro‑active hands‑on problem solving on the job‑site. Required Qualification & Experience (Minimum) BSc or BEng degree in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering Registered with ECSA as Pr Eng / Pr Tech. Registration with SACPCMP and / or Project Management Profession (PMU). At least 5 years relevant experience in design & construction projects, buildings infrastructure, power generation, petrochemical and renewable energy. Experience in contracts (JBCC and NEC) administration and financial administration. Knowledge of CIDB, PROCSA, Fee Scales, consultant's appointments. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) Expert in MS Project, Primavera or equivalent project management tools a must. Proven experience in project management Driver's license and own reliable vehicle a must. Able to travel nationally and internationally as needed to support client engagements, to support project implementations and attend industry events.
