Job Title: Resident Civil Engineer Location: Site-Based, Vereeniging Area (South of Johannesburg) Employment Type: Permanent, Site-Based Reporting To: Construction Manager / Project Manager Project Overview Gig Engineer is looking for a Resident Civil Engineer for its client's industrial construction project in the Vereeniging area. The scope includes significant civil works, such as earthworks, roads, stormwater management, and utilities. Purpose of the Role To serve as the client's on-site representative, ensuring all civil works are executed in compliance with project specifications, designs, approved methodologies, safety standards, and contractual requirements. Key Responsibilities and Duties Supervise and inspect all civil construction activities on site, including earthworks, roadworks, stormwater systems, and utilities. Audit the site administration system, including the issuance of site instructions, approval of materials, and management of IFC drawings. Monitor and verify QA / QC tests and inspections, ensuring compliance with project specifications and relevant standards (e.g., SANS, COLTO). Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., MEPF, structural) to ensure seamless integration of civil works with other project components. Apply and enforce QA / QC systems in collaboration with the Main Contractor and third-party suppliers. Resolve technical issues on site, liaising with the design office when necessary, with approval from the Construction Manager / Project Manager. Ensure all construction drawings are up to date and manage change control procedures for design revisions. Witness daily quality inspections and ensure the Main Contractor completes all required QA documentation. Review project schedules with the Construction Manager and identify potential risks in the 4-week look-ahead. Issue defects and snagging lists and notify the Construction Manager of non-conformances. Review method statements and job safety analysis documents with the site HSE team. Validate As-Built drawings and 3D models for accuracy upon project completion. Administer the construction contract (e.g., GCC, NEC, FIDIC), including assessing payment certificates, variation orders, and claims. Qualifications and Experience Essential: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or B-Tech in Civil Engineering. Essential: Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng). Minimum of 5–10 years of post-qualification experience. Proven experience in a Resident Engineer or Site Supervision role on construction projects. Strong knowledge of construction contracts (GCC, NEC, or FIDIC). Highly Advantageous Experience in industrial projects (e.g., manufacturing plants, processing facilities, warehouses). Familiarity with the Vereeniging / Sedang / Gauteng South region. Required Skills and Competencies Proficiency in interpreting civil engineering drawings and specifications. Strong site management, leadership, and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality. Pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
