Santam is recruiting for the position of Claims Technical Advice Specialist within the Claims Technical Advice department. Claims Technical Advice operates within Quality and Knowledge Management which is part and parcel of Santam Claims Solutions. We are looking for a highly professional and driven individual to assume the role of support to the Claims Technical Advice business. The position reports to the Claims Technical Advice Manager. WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE Providing technical advice on matters of interpretation of insurance policy wordings to claims management and different stakeholders within the organisation. Perform as subject matter expert in applying principles of insurance law, law delict, contract, evidence and interpretation of statutes in claims handling. Facilitate claims knowledge transfer through workshops and publication of short-term insurance claims communications. Promote uniformity of policy interpretation which will contribute to faster indemnification processes and fair treatment of customers. Liaise with underwriting and training concerning ambiguities and shortcomings in policy wordings as input to promote development and or product wording changes. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Legal qualification (LLB or equivalent) Insurance related qualification (COP; ICIBS; HCII) 3 years or more in operational environment (claims or technical underwriting) Excellent knowledge of claims processes Solid knowledge of Insurance products (Personal and Commercial etc.) SKILLS Product knowledge (Commercial and Personal lines) Strong relationship building skills Strong industry acumen Analytical skills Negotiation skills Ability to pay attention to detail KNOWLEDGE Ability to apply legal principles of interpretation amidst the growing regulatory requirements that require compliance with application of fairness and equity, while balancing the company's ability to remain profitable and sustainable in a tight economic environment.
