Gauteng – Claims Specialist – Santam Marine Key Responsibilities Manage a complex portfolio of claims from notification to closure, applying technical skill and judgement to each claim. Segment claims to appropriate handlers based on mandates, technical skill set and case complexity. Provide continuous training to team members in line with legal developments and new product offerings. Follow Santam Marine Claims Reserving Philosophy, Claims Standards, and the “Treating Customers Fairly” policy. Iterate, document and execute claims strategies considering uncertainties, key decisions, potential outcomes and estimated associated costs. Understand and execute the requirements set by Internal Osti and Client Liaison for complaints within Santam Group Claims Framework. Regularly review individual claims, keep reserves and records up‑to‑date as required by Santam Marine controls. Identify issues and trends in the portfolio and take appropriate corrective action. Escalate problem claims to team leader, senior specialist and management where necessary. Deal with internal and external complaints (OSTI) and ensure all claims rejections are referred to management before client submission. Collaborate with underwriters to explain the Santam Marine philosophy, review claim trends, and provide feedback on potential impact on the book. Operate within approved claims authority at all times and implement minimum operating and claim standards. Maintain thorough knowledge of industry regulations and minimum standards to ensure compliance with Santam Marine claims and underwriting control standards and protocols. Qualifications & Experience Matric – F.A.I.S – Post Graduate (optional). Minimum 3‑5 years of actual marine specialist liability claims experience, including reinsurance facultative inwards/outwards and complex matters. Strong analytical, judgement, communication and negotiation skills. Proactive client orientation and team‑work capabilities. Computer literacy – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
