Outsized Commercial Underwriter role at Outsized in City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Our client is looking for a skilled and experienced underwriter to support the underwriting team leader in overseeing and executing underwriting functions. The company provides professional, affordable medical malpractice insurance that protects doctors against allegations of wrongful practices. The successful candidate must have prior experience in the insurance sector, ideally in medical malpractice or similar liability products and will be responsible for initial underwriting assessments and policy administration, ensuring precision, strong communication, and effective organisation. The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Key Duties and Responsibilities Conduct preliminary underwriting assessments for new applications and policy renewals Generate and prepare preliminary, accurate quotations for approval as well as the final quotations Capture new business and renewals into the administration system Monitor and complete tasks within system-defined turnaround times Ensure data accuracy and maintain system integrity Handle late renewals and cancellations in accordance with internal procedures Provide support for, or coordinate meetings alongside management Maintain consistent and accurate policy data across systems Activate policies on the administration system ensuring that the correct cover is issued, and the correct premium is collected Qualifications and Experience Required Prior experience in the insurance sector, ideally in medical malpractice or similar liability products Matric / Senior Certificate Insurance related qualification RE5 certification (required) Demonstrated experience (at least 3 years) in a similar underwriting role Excellent organisational and administrative abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills Detail‑oriented and able to meet tight deadlines Strong interpersonal and time‑management capabilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word) Familiarity with policy administration systems will be an advantage Personal Attributes Determined and resilient Professional and articulate Able to work with minimum supervision Self‑driven and goal‑focused Committed to excellent service delivery Adaptable and eager to learn A collaborative team player Apply Please apply via the Apply button on this post.
