SENIOR LECTURER (Permanent, full‑time) Division of Public Health Medicine School of Public Health Faculty of Health Sciences The School of Public Health, in the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT provides a range of under‑ and postgraduate teaching in population‑based public health sciences to students training to be health professionals. The School is looking for a Senior Lecturer to co‑coordinate existing undergraduate teaching, develop integrated teaching in clinical years in public health for medical students and contribute to postgraduate teaching and research. Requirements An MB ChB or equivalent. A postgraduate degree in public health (e.g. Masters or PhD) or equivalent. Two years' experience in health sciences undergraduate teaching and assessment. Co‑ordination and administrative skills to run an academic programme. Familiarity with the South African healthcare system and the Primary Healthcare Philosophy. Research experience, including at least 2 peer‑reviewed articles on a public health topic. Three years' experience working in the public health field. Registration with the HPCSA as an independent medical practitioner. Advantages Proficient in two or more languages commonly spoken in South Africa/Western Cape. Mentorship skills. Scholarship in Teaching and Learning as evidenced in publications or chapters. 10 or more peer‑reviewed research outputs. A record of presenting at national or international conferences. Advocacy and/or social media skills. Experience in convening of under‑ and/or postgraduate courses. Qualifications Qualification in a cognate discipline (e.g. Health Promotion, Child Health, Palliative Care, Family Medicine). Qualification in health sciences education. Experience in managing or delivering public health services. Experience of curriculum transformation in the health sciences. Responsibilities Convene the current 4th year MB ChB Health in Context course (PPH****W) and contribute to the updating and redevelopment of the course, in line with faculty priorities for curriculum transformation. Development of public health teaching integrated in clinical setting in years 5 and 6 of the MB ChB programme. Convene the School's Undergraduate Education Committee. Represent the School in faculty committees dealing with undergraduate education. Provision of support to other undergraduate teaching activities. Contribute to teaching reviews and redesign of teaching programmes within the School. Conduct population‑oriented health research in one or more broad public health fields. Postgraduate student supervision. Support for engagements with community and civil society groups that facilitate community‑based learning for students and advance scholarship. Performance management of certain staff and effective budgetary oversight for teaching and research. The appointment will be on the UCT Academic Clinical Conditions of Service. The annual cost of employment, including benefits, will be based on the University's clinical academic pay line, which is aligned with OSD rates.
