Lecturer: Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education The University of Pretoria invites applications for a Lecturer position in the Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education. This role will contribute to the excellence and diversity mission of the university. Responsibilities Develop and lecture modules in the department’s programmes. Conduct research activities, publish results, and supervise postgraduate students. Design, present, and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre‑service and in‑service teachers, including contact and distance delivery. Mentor students in practice teaching and work‑integrated learning. Use a learning management system to develop and deliver courses. Present lectures and programmes in an e‑learning environment. Contribute to research outputs, postgraduate teaching, and supervision. Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in Physical Sciences (Physics and/or Chemistry) Education. At least one year of Physical Sciences teaching experience. Evidence of school‑based or related tertiary experience. Evidence of research experience. Evidence of community project experience. Evidence of administrative or managerial skills or leadership; commitment to ongoing professional development. Required Competencies Knowledge of Physical Sciences Education across its different fields. Knowledge of teaching methodologies in Physical Sciences Education. Knowledge of the South African education system regarding Physical Sciences Education. Experience facilitating learning in an e‑learning environment. Appropriate language and communication skills. Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision. Ability to work individually and in a team. Academic administration and participation in departmental/faculty committees. Additional Advantages and Preferences Enrolment in PhD or relevant equivalent postgraduate studies. Mentoring/coaching experience. Experience working with large groups. Remuneration and Benefits The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
