EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent shall be responsible for the following duties
- General administration and management of appointments, assessment rooms, psychometric instruments and technological equipment’s as well as finances, at the practical training facilities of the Department of Educational Psychology
- Network and liaison with external agencies (clients, schools, community engagement partners);
- Workshop postgraduate Educational Psychology M.Ed. students on clinical assessment procedures and process and psychotherapy
- Coordination, supervision and monitoring of practical work by postgraduate students in Educational Psychology
- Supervision of internships of educational psychology students
- Supporting postgraduate students in terms of ethically responsible practices and professional development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in Psychology
- Three years’ experience in selection of relevant assessment media for clients, test administration, scoring and interpreting scores of different psychometric instruments, therapeutic intervention and report writing
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Registration as an Educational Psychologist at the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for a minimum of 3 years (minimum time required to supervise students at clinical sites).
- Experience in psychological intervention, prevention strategies including development of culturally relevant intervention strategies, knowledge of professional ethics of HPCSA.
- Experience or knowledge in collaborating with various stakeholders and how to manage own Educational Psychology practice (private practice if possible).
- Competency in communication and written language (report writing and guidance in report writing) - English (please refer to language policy)
- Experience in training others or mentoring and supporting students.
- Understanding the requirements of supervision of internship students.
- Excellent record of administration and organisational skills.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Experience in working with postgraduate students in clinical training
- Networking skills (collaboration with diverse prospective clients)
- Good language and writing skills (report writing and guidance of students to write reports)
- Excellent knowledge of psychometric test used by Educational Psychologist in South Africa
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- MEd in Educational Psychology
- Knowledge and skills in the field of Educational Psychology
- Experience in training Educational Psychology Students
- Experience in student support
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
