Product Developer

Position: Product Developer Reporting to: Head of Product Development Location: Bolt Avenue, Cape Town Purpose and Objectives To assist with sourcing and developing new product ranges within the business direction and strategy. To be thought leaders in category development in food, sourcing and procuring new product ranges to meet the business strategy and objectives aligned with our customer. To grow sustainable categories and interpret customer and market needs by continually reviewing and understanding trends and innovation. Key Performance Areas Managing timelines, executing successful product launches. Understanding global and local trends and identifying innovation and opportunities. Assisting with range review and gap analysis. Continual review of product quality and standards, benchmarking and comparative shops. Reviewing and understanding product legal compliance. Assist with sourcing new products and ranges and assessing viability. Ensuring accuracy of information received and storing correctly. Key Job Functions Good understanding of product attributes, processes and flavor. Managing critical path and driving projects with accuracy to launch from 4P, meeting agreed deadlines. Assisting with range reviews and gap analysis. Working closely with internal departments, team members, customers and suppliers in meeting all goals, milestones and objectives in the critical path. Effective benchmarking, competitor analysis and quality checks. Understanding of market and customer trend analysis. Monitoring product quality and standards. Building and maintaining good relationships with customers and suppliers. Accurately capturing and storing all relevant information. Assist with market and customer trend analysis. Input into post implementation reviews. Knowledge and Experience Required Successful & timeous launch to project commitment in each fiscal year. Meeting project deadlines and launch dates. Achievement of targeted number of new product launches aligned to strategic & commercial plan for the fiscal. Product legal compliance. Accuracy of detailed information for launch, including artwork. Basic understanding of sales. Person Profile, Skills and Attitude Relevant Degree or Diploma in Food Preparation / Marketing / Consumer Science advantageous. Understanding of foods, trends and customer segmentation and shopper behavior. Knowledge and understanding of the food business globally. Understanding of food manufacturing and production. Planning and project management skills. Computer literate and being proficient in MS Office. Advanced skills in MS PowerPoint are required. Excellent command of English, good communication and presentation skills. Excellent administrative skills. Knowledge of technical processes, principles and label legislation is advantageous. Knowledge of customer technical requirements and processes advantageous.
