Salary: Basic + Highly competitive Commission

Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated trader to join our client in the Cape Town region. The ideal candidate will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and benefit from an aggressive profit-sharing remuneration system in addition to a basic salary. The successful applicant will have a strong fundamental knowledge of the commodity market, a proven track record of profitability, and an established network within the industry.

Education and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coal trading is essential
    • Proven track record of managing profitable trading portfolios.
    • Extensive network and well-established relationships within the commodity trading sector

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Division Establishment and Expansion:
    • Develop and manage a profitable division or expansion within the company.
    • Drive business growth through strategic planning and execution.
  2. Budget Compilation:
    • Create an annual income budget detailing expected volumes, counterparties, margins, and indicative cash flow necessary to meet budget targets.
    • Monitor and adjust the budget as needed to align with market conditions and performance.
  3. Market Awareness:
    • Stay updated on both local and international market trends affecting your division.
    • Analyze and interpret market data to make informed trading decisions.
  4. Transaction Management:
    • Negotiate, finalize, and execute transactions in accordance with the company’s trade mandate.
    • Ensure all transactions are profitable and compliant with industry standards and company policies.
    • Demonstrated ability to self-manage and achieve financial targets.

  • In-depth knowledge of the physical market, including product specifics, price drivers, customers, suppliers, and logistics.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • High level of motivation, entrepreneurial spirit, and a results-driven mindset.
