Head of Quality and Safety for Maternity and Neonatal Services The closing date is 17 November 2025 This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and knowledgeable midwife or neonatal nurse to lead, implement and have full delegated responsibility to deliver on the Quality and Governance Agenda ensuring continual improvement across the Maternity and Neonatal services. The post holder will lead the multi-disciplinary governance team, ensuring the effective implementation of a comprehensive and systematic approach to clinical governance. They must understand the principles of safety, quality assurance, and the governance framework pertinent to maternity and neonatal services, with the ability to analyse national standards and develop action plans. Knowledge of relevant quality improvement and assurance principles is essential. As an exceptional leader with in-depth knowledge of governance, assurance mechanisms, and national standards, you will inspire confidence and innovation among our incredible workforce. The applicant will have a passion for governance and gold standard care within maternity and neonatal services and be able to provide statutory and regulatory assurance regarding the quality and safety of the care we deliver. As an exceptional, experienced senior midwife or neonatal nurse you will become an essential part of that supportive multi-disciplinary team, providing inspirational leadership, working with key stakeholders to support transformation within our service Main duties of the job Lead on monitoring standards of a range of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and patient safety activity, in liaison with other multidisciplinary professionals and functional heads within the Maternity and Neonatal Team. Maintain strong working relationships with clinical colleagues. Ensure the triangulation of information and intelligence from across the Service's, the division and the Trust, in order to provide leadership and direction in relation to Quality Governance, Effectiveness and Quality Improvements. Work in partnership with the senior obstetric, midwifery and neonatal teams to assist in driving forward the wider Maternity and Neonatal leadership, operational, governance and strategic agendas. Person Specification Degree in Midwifery and/or Neonatal Nursing Masters level study in a Health Related Subject (or working towards) Evidence of recent post registration continuous professional development / Qualification. Understanding of principles of safety, quality assurance and governance framework pertinent to maternity and neonatal services. Ability to analyse national standards and develop an action plan Project Management/Service Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) or Professional Nursing Advocate (PNA) Skills & Abilities Knowledge of relevant Quality Improvement and assurance principles. Evidence of multidisciplinary working. Lead on formulation, dissemination and implementation of policies and guidelines. Service development experience, delivering clinical quality improvements and successful service change. Ability to produce high quality Specialist knowledge in clinical governance and risk management Experience in both hospital and community setting Experience Recent experience in clinical practice related to post. Experience of midwifery and/or neonatal nursing practice in hospital and community settings. Can demonstrate expertise in midwifery and/or neonatal practice. Experience in writing reports/presenting information internally/externally in a timely manner to a range of Senior Managers. Demonstrable experience of leading change and problem solving in clinical settings, patient care and experience Evidence and experience in delivering midwifery and neonatal operational and strategic performance including strategic safe staffing and skill mix reviews, infection control, risk management, complaints and adverse incidents across a range of services.
