Main job function We are looking for an oral hygienist who would also like to be involved in assisting within our busy surgical periodontal practice. The role includes: Assisting with surgical procedures Taking records and x-rays Communicating with referring colleagues Supporting clinical workflow This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both patient care and team collaboration in a specialist environment. Patient Care Oral Screenings: Conduct comprehensive oral health screenings, including checking for signs of gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer. Dental Cleanings: Remove plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth and below the gum line using specialized instruments. Applying Fluoride and Sealants: Apply protective substances like fluoride treatments and dental sealants to prevent cavities. Taking X-rays: Take and develop dental X-rays to help diagnose and monitor various oral conditions. Oral Hygiene Education: Teach patients proper brushing, flossing, and other oral hygiene techniques to maintain good oral health. Nutrition Counseling: Advise patients on how their nutrition impacts their oral health. Clinical & Administrative Duties Patient Record Keeping: Document patient histories, treatment plans, and other relevant information in patient records. Reporting to Dentists: Summarize their findings and observations for the dentist, recommending appropriate treatment plans. Managing Supplies & Equipment: Monitor and maintain dental instruments, equipment, and the sterilization process. Referrals: Refer patients to dentists or other specialists if further treatment is required. Maintaining Sterilization: Adhere to strict infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments and maintaining a clean work environment.
