About the Role
- A Senior Bid Officer manages and coordinates the entire tendering process for engineering projects, ensuring compliance with South African procurement regulations while maximizing the company's success rate in winning contracts. The incumbent will be based in Johannesburg, Woodmead office.
Job Requirements
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years experience in bid/proposal management within the construction/engineering sector
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Engineering/Business, or a related field advantageous
- Proven track record of successfully winning bids for complex engineering projects
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., APMP, ECSA) is an advantage
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software
- Strong understanding of the South African engineering market and procurement processes
- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Ability to lead coordination and motivate bid team, as well as other support team members as required
- Strong commercial, financial, and contractual acumen
- Understanding of GDPR and POPIA regulations
- Experience in infrastructure sectors (water, transportation, buildings, etc.)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
We will entrust and rely on you to:
- Develop a winning bid strategy that highlights the company's strengths and competitive advantages
- Analyze tender documents including RFPs, RFQs, and EOIs, and identify key requirements, evaluation criteria, feasibility, and potential risks
- Conduct Go/No-Go bid analyses to assess project viability and strategic fit
- Create a detailed bid plan with clear timelines, responsibilities, and resource allocation
- Lead the preparation and submission of complex technical and commercial bids for engineering projects
- Coordinate with technical teams, project managers, and senior management to develop competitive project proposals
- Ensure compliance with all tender requirements and internal governance procedures.
- Write and edit compelling bid content that clearly articulates the value proposition and addresses client needs
- Manage the bid submission process, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of all required documents
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders including clients, contractors, and suppliers
- Maintain updated records of tender submissions, success rates, and competitor analyses
- Maintain bid tracking and performance reporting systems
- Conduct market research and competitive intelligence gathering
- Support business development and client relationship management efforts
