Program Manager

CAREER OPPORTUNITY
An exciting opportunity exists for a
Program Manager. This position is based in Centurion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients
  • Able to work with the Exec and team.
  • Formulate, organize, and monitor interconnected projects
  • Decide on suitable strategies and objectives
  • Assist in implementation and adoption of Agile methodology
  • Coordinate crossproject activities
  • Lead and evaluate stream leads and other staff
  • Develop and control deadlines, budgets, and activities
  • Participate in the management of people and vendors
  • Assess program performance and aim to maximize ROI
  • Resolve projects' higher scope issues
  • Executive engagement, stakeholder management and governance including
  • Steerco management.
  • Managing feedback
  • Ensure feedback is provided to:
  • Sponsors, including shareholders
  • Focus group
  • The company through Newsletters)
  • The company Board
  • Various Governance Structures of the Shareholder
  • Prepare management reports
  • Reporting:
  • Providing templates for reporting:
  • Status Reporting
  • Risk Reporting
  • Benefits Tracker
  • Alignment to COBIT PM guidelines
  • Ensure reports for the steerco, board and Execs are prepared
  • Ensure the stream leads report on status

Budget management and control

Managing budget and approvals:

  • Created a change request framework accepted by all sponsors
  • Ensure all out of budget activities follow the approval process
  • Weekly finance meetings to review budget

Interdependencies:

Coordinating stream leads and overlapping areas:

  • Work with stream leads to ensure individually considered all the areas relating to other streams and
- ensuring the right decisions are made by the right stream lead

  • Resolving conflicts and issues within the streams and areas that seem grey
  • Meet regularly to ensure all stream leads are aware of various stream updates and dependencie

  • Ability to manage at the conceptual "flight plan" level; yet also able to deepdive to identify, unpack challenges if needed.
  • Able to ask the right questions.
  • Managing program schedule
  • Weekly updates:
  • Work with the service providers PMs to ensure we are on schedule and flag any imminent risks to the schedule
  • Program delivery
  • Coordinating the various PMs to ensure alignment in delivery
  • Manage offshore development teams

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric
  • Qualification in Project Management

Work Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least five years prior experience in the role of a Project Manager or Program Management
  • Must have managed projects in a Shortterm Insurance
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the SDLC
  • Experience and knowledge of the steps and process. Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban experience/knowledge
  • Understand framework used/applied and able to shape optimal approach

Preferably, in addition to the above:

  • Relevant Experience as a Manager of Transformational IT Change Initiative/Project with similar risk, size and
  • Complexity
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the SDLC
. Experience and knowledge of the steps and process.

Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban experience/knowledge.

  • Understand framework used/applied and able to shape optimal approach

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Minimum Requirements:

  • Displays an appreciation and understanding of IT concepts and the SDLC
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Excellent Knowledge of performance evaluation and change management principles
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (MS Project etc.)
  • Excellent agile based project management
  • Good understanding of Business, IT and Supplier Partner roles (Includes: Scrum Master(s), Project Management,
Change Management, Architecture, SME, Business Owners etc.). Able to "orchestrate" and motivate a can-do, motivated team

  • Key disciplines: Able to create, adjust, maintain structure, Stakeholder management (including conflict resolution),
Facilitate decision making, Tight risk and issue management, Planning, Change control and scope management,Benefits and Cost managementATTRIBUTES
