Purpose of the role


Within an agile and strong team, the Business Controller is responsible for assisting the Market Leaders and their teams in developing sustainable strategies providing an overall optimized economic performance.


Main responsibilities:

  • Influence or advise the Market Leaders and their teams on the value created by their categories.
  • Monitor transversal processes such as budget or back margins
  • Manage reaction plan to routine reporting and alerts
  • Conduct detailed analysis of performance in order to give feedback and help to raise the operational action plan
  • Adapt your analysis to the specificity of the market and to the operational actors
  • Develop processes for transversal management of some specific topics connected to previous value creation (Range Performance, Supply Chain performance, Back Margins, Negotiations )
  • Be an active and motor member of the team
  • Manage revenue and related expense reporting for the Business Unit, thereby ensuring control, accuracy, predictability and timely delivery of results, comparative analysis, and commentary to BU leaders and the Regional BU Finance team
  • Setting the Markets performance objectives & breaking them down to operational level
  • Review of the P&L with Category managers & provide support on areas of development
  • Managing Category Manager's KPIs and providing support to attain the set objectives
  • Price monitoring and making profitable recommendations to the market teams as well as reviewing offerings on product pricing strategies with financial consequences
  • Manage & Support all BU revenue and expensereporting, ensuring control, accuracy, predictability, and timely delivery of figures, analysis, and comments.
  • Support BU in pursuit of financial targets through indepth analysis and sharing of financial knowledge.
  • Communicate, discuss, and challenge financial impacts with Categorymanagers. Prepare and present at BUrelated meetings where financial input/commentary is required/requested
  • Guide Category managers & Procurement specialists on a strategy to attain the set objectives on improving & maintaining Turnover, Margin, Basket value & customer traffic
  • Providing operational risk management support to the business units and ensuring proper business performance management through profitability and operational analyses
  • Category management, review and analyze cost efficiency and its impact on value creation
  • Review, analyze and improve cost to achieve cost efficiency
  • Support all business units with insights to make informed decisions toward achieving the company's objectives

Technical skills:

  • Ability to translate operational retail activities into a simple economic model
  • Understanding and experience of P&L and accounting part of business
  • Strong curiosity about figures and performance
  • Understanding of operations and spending time on the floor, in order to develop a pragmatic understanding of the business and operational solutions
  • Advanced Excel Skills

Experience:

  • Operational Retail experiences such as store manager or category manager is welcome
  • Finance or accounting (Auditor) experience could also be an advantage
  • Of course, if you already had a similar role, you are more than welcome
  • Intermediate to advanced computer software skills, including Excel, Google Sheet
  • Retail background advantageous
  • Managerial Experience and good people skills
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Auditing
