Suidooster is currently recruiting an Art Director / Head Art Department.

The position is based in Cape Town and the successful applicant would need to start middle
- late April 2024. The successful applicant would be employed on a permanent fixed term contract.

Suidooster is a highly successful, multi-award winning daily soap drama, broadcast on kykNET, DSTV and Showmax Platforms. Suidooster produces 260 episodes per annum and records primarily in the multi-camera, studio format.

The duties of the Art Director/ Head of Art Department include inter alia:
Designing and overseeing the construction of new sets, swing sets and cameo sets.

Dressing sets, including set dressing for specific scenes.

Refreshing existing looks of sets.

Dressing of locations for outside-studio shoots.

Locating/sourcing/creating and managing general and hero props.

Conducting research and look boards for set locations.


Be able to create realistic environments for a divers list of characters from wealthy families to working class and poor.

Managing, delegating and overseeing the team of props buyers, set standbys, Construction team and set swingers.


Managing the props, set construction, set dressing budgets and ensuring sets are manufactured, installed and dressed within a short turn around.

Manage the prop and set dressing storage units.

Have at least 10 years' experience in a senior art department role.

Have multi-cam experience in drama, telenovela, sit-com or soap.

Be able to draft scale floor plans of sets for use in studio (camera blocking etc)

Have a passion and flair for design and enjoy working in the drama genre.

Enjoy storytelling.

Thrive in a high pressure, deadline driven environment.

Be able to lead, guide, mentor and inspire their team.

Be fluent in Afrikaans.

Be an innovative problem solver with a can-do attitude.
