Required Qualification:
  • A PhD in Cultural Policy and Management and/any related and relevant field of study
  • 3 Years teaching experience at tertiary institution
  • Inservice capacity building training
  • Research profile with evidence of peer reviewed publications and/ creative research in accredited journals.
  • At least 4 to 6 years of industry experience (Cultural and Creative Industries)

Recommended/Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to design courses on Canvas (Ulwazi) and deliver blended Teaching & Learning
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially, MS teams and Power Point
  • Familiarity with AI software such as Chat GPT

Experience:

Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, in one or more of the following areas of Cultural Policy and Management: Introduction to Cultural Policy and Management - value of the arts in society; Funding Contexts in Cultural and Creative Industries - resources mobilisation; Cultural Entrepreneurship - networks and partnerships; Art Marketing-Contexts, Strategies and Practices, Cultural Policy and Leadership - audience engagement; Creativity, Culture and the Economy; Arts Marketing and Creative Markets - traditional and digital marketing; Arts Festivals; community arts; Heritage Management and related areas/fields.

  • Expert Knowledge of and experience in Cultural Policy and Management.
  • Ability to develop and innovate course content so as to keep programmes relevant, current and responsive to societal needs and challenges.
  • The ability to offer of a variety of teaching and learning methodologies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Knowledge and expertise in developing blended learning pedagogies.
  • Computer literacies commensurate with the requirements of all forms of lecture delivery, elearning methodologies and academic administration.
  • Demonstrate evidence of an ongoing contribution to knowledge creation in the field through proof of publication outputs in peer reviewed national and international DHET accredited journals as well as public facing research industry and academic books publications.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing cultural leadership practice and national and international engagement.
  • Established engagement and networks through liaison with professionals, peers and the creative arts industry.
  • Knowledge and capacity to mobilise third stream income for academic research and sector engagement
  • Experience of initiating and contributing to community engagement and community engagement programmes in cultural policy and management.
  • Excellent track record of research outcomes in the areas of cultural policy and management.
  • An interest in transformative pedagogies, curriculum development, and transformation within the humanities.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, teaching and coordinating courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Contributing to major and minor academic developments in the department
  • Supervising postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and PhD level.
  • Contributing to the development and management of the research programmes and projects in the department.
  • Contributing to the work of the Department and the School as a whole, such as actively engaging in committee work.
  • Contributing to fundraising strategies for the Department
