JOB PURPOSE


This memo seeks to request approval for the appointment For a Development (L&D) Trainer on a four-months temporary assignment to assist with the enterprise-wide rollout of the Performance Management (PM) process and Cornerstone System functionality training.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The L&D Department is a Centre of Excellence within the Human Capital Division, delivering enterprise-wide learning and development interventions that include, and are not limited to, leadership development, technical, functional, behavioural skills training, content development, learning management systems (LMS), and facilitation of communities of practice.

To improve performance management and align the corporation with evolving best practices, the company has designed, developed, and adopted a leading-edge performance management process, aimed at improving how we manage performance at a corporate, team, and individual levels to achieve corporate goals.

Following the adoption of the enhanced PM process, a new IT Learning Management System platform (i.e., Cornerstone) was procured to replace the existing SAP Performance Management Module.

A significant feature of the new Performance Management process includes regular performance coaching conversations, performance feedback, and a simplified review process between line managers and their respective subordinates.


The adoption of this performance management process and practices necessitates a shift in mindset and behaviour, neither of which can occur without structured formal capacitation of all internal stakeholders.

As a result, the L&D Department, assisted by Talent Management and Organizational Effectiveness, Human Capital HC Business Partners, and Corporate Strategy and Innovations departments, will require additional dedicated specialised trainers to supplement employees' formal training to understand the new Performance Management process and be able to use Cornerstone system to capture performance objectives and development, and complete performance reviews.

DISCUSSION


The enhanced Performance Management process is expected to kick off in earnest from April 2023, with the new Cornerstone system ready for deployment (including configuration, testing, and data migration from SAP) ahead of the adoption date.

This project will require additional training support from three full-time and dedicated Cornerstone system trainers to ensure a seamless adoption of the New Ways of Working and for line managers and subordinates to be fully capacitated to support this change.


By April 2023, the enhanced Performance Management process is expected to kick off in earnest, with the new Cornerstone system ready for deployment (including configuration, testing, and data migration from SAP) ahead of the adoption date.

As part of this project, three full-time Cornerstone system trainers will be necessary to ensure seamless adoption of the New Ways of Working and to fully capacitate line managers and subordinates to support this change.

L&D will not be able to meet the training deadline without additional training resources for the following reasons:

  • Limited resources and capacity within the L&D department.
  • Other urgent and critical L&D portfolio commitments.
  • The system training requires dedicated, experienced, and skilled Cornerstone system trainers.
  • The significant and diverse volume of training to be undertaken in a short period of time.
  • Specialist design capability of learning material requires dedicated resources to conclude this in a short period of time.
  • The urgency of PM deployment and its alignment within the tight business planning and remunerations process timelines.

L&D SYSTEM TRAINER REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are the primary responsibilities of L&D Trainers:

  • Train end-users on how to capture performance objectives, SMART goal setting and development plans on the Cornerstone system.
  • Train endusers as per the training schedule.
  • Respond to enduser queries posttraining.
  • Support the design and development of training materials.
  • Compile training reports and analyse trainingrelated trends, and improvement opportunities, or respond to questions directed at the PM project team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a relevant undergraduate degree. A post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • A relevant qualification in learning material design and development will be advantageous.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • At least 5 years' experience in the design and development of userfriendly training material.
  • At least 5 years hands on experience in systems training.
  • Has trained users from administration level staff to senior management
  • Very strong facilitation and presentation skills. i.e., adult learning principles, training approach
