African Parks (AP) is a South African-based conservation organization and the leading conservation organization in Africa, partnering with governments and local communities in the rehabilitation and management of African national parks and protected areas.

The organization currently manages 22 protected areas, totaling about 20 million hectares (50 million acres), across twelve countries.

These parks include some of Africa's largest and most well-known protected areas, including Kafue, Zambia's largest national park; Odzala-Kokoua, one of the largest intact rainforest parks in West Africa; and Bazaruto Archipelago, a world heritage site and marine park that hosts the last viable population of dugongs on the eastern coast of Africa.

AP secures long-term mandates from national governments to protect these parks and provides comprehensive programming, including biodiversity conservation, community development and revenue generation, underpinned by infrastructure development and strong management.


AP's global funding team consists of multiple fundraising units, including the institutional funding team, the foundation in the United States (APFA), several fundraising entities across Europe (APEU), a team in Asia Pacific and a Nature-Based Solutions team.

These teams have as main responsibility to raise enough funding to sustain AP's operations and growth plans.

Funding comes primarily from major private donors (high-net-worth individuals), institutional donors (i.e., European Union, US Government and German Government) as well as foundations, conservation organizations, and increasingly from corporate partnerships.

The organization maintains strong relationships with its key donors. Many of them are long-term supporters of African Parks.

The Proposals, Impact Reporting and Analysis Team (PIRATE) is the backbone of AP's funding operations and builds the bridge between the fundraising entities and the park operations and other departments at Head Office.


Job Purpose:


African Parks is seeking an exceptional project manager who is strong at business analysis with the main objective to support the Head of PIRATE ("Proposals, Impact Reporting & Analysis Team") and Global Funding Director with key strategic projects across the fundraising team.

Furthermore, the role will be responsible for dialing up AP's monitoring and reporting, working closely with our Finance team to analyse fundraising pipeline, trends, successes and challenges across the global team and facilitate better decision making for key governance entities including:
African Parks' Executive Team, African Parks Board of Directors and the Global Fundraising Leadership Team.

We are looking for a self-driven, highly strategic and organized individual, capable of navigating different projects and topics in parallel, experienced in process optimization and with exceptional analytical and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

Project management of key strategic initiatives: You will partner with the Head of PIRATE and the Global Funding Director to deliver strategic initiatives aiming to improve the effectiveness of fundraising operations and the positioning of AP. This could include the review and restructuring of the fundraising structures in one of our markets, coordination of the development and roll-out of Standard Operating Procedures or research, content development and planning for AP's participation at key conferences such as COPs, Climate Weeks, Davos, etc.

Fundraising monitoring and reporting: You will lead the coordination of effective monitoring and reporting of fundraising activities and progress against targets across our global fundraising teams. You will work closely with the fundraising team as well as the finance and business intelligence team to ensure meaningful, correct and increasingly automated reporting for key constituencies.

Business analytics: You will work closely with the Head of PIRATE and Global Funding Director on regular updates and special briefing documents on fundraising targets, emerging funding trends and funding projections. You will lead the collection and analysis of data / information / research and develop actionable recommendations to enable effective decision making within the Global Fundraising Leadership Team, AP's Executive Team and Board of Directors. You will support the Head of PIRATE in solutioning around projects related to data and decision-making and engage with other departments to enable group-wide alignment.

Competencies, qualifications and experience needed for the role:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in several of the following areas: business analytics, project management, process optimization and strategy. Background in a top-tier management consulting firm will be a plus.
