As a health delivery and research organisation, THINK engages with the local community, government consortia, and international funders to provide care for over 100,000 people in KwaZulu-Natal and carry out cutting-edge clinical research that has already contributed to changing treatment guidelines internationally and locally.


THINK is looking for qualified Community Liaison Officer to support the implementation of the THINK ADAPT project in eThekwini District.

The Community Liaison Officer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships between THINK and stakeholders.

They will work to ensure that community members are aware of the THINKs programs and services, and that the THINK is aware of the community's needs and concerns.

The Community Liaison Officer will act as a bridge between the THINK and the community, fostering understanding and trust between the two groups.


Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate and implement community engagement and stakeholder relations activities in the district for the ADAPT project.
  • Participate in the development of and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategy for the ADAPT Project.
  • Participate in the development of activities at the community and partner level to improve uptake of COVID vaccination.
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping to identify highpriority areas.
  • Develop and maintain updated stakeholder analysis, directory, mapping, engagements.
  • Alignment of Project objectives with THINK Strategic intent including funder expectations and requirements.
  • Report to internal and external stakeholders on project performance.
  • Report and monitor engagement actions and plans.
  • Collate, analyse and write reports to share insights on communitylevel activities. Work in close collaboration with DOH managers and facility managers to support the Global Vax activity.
  • Continuous engagement with civil society structure, organisations, Doh and other key stakeholders.
  • Regular internal and external stakeholder engagements with DoH to ensure project deliverables are achieved.
  • Facilitate the relationship between stakeholders, and the community at large and THINK.
  • Facilitate, participate, and monitor the mobilisation of potential participants for the ADAPT project.
  • Continuously provide feedback to stakeholders on community concerns and priorities with the view to improving engagement with the community.
  • Schedule outreach meetings with local community members to identify their issues and concerns.
  • Maintain an effective communication structure and channels with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify potential partners for the ADAPT Project.
  • Participate in district and local level meetings e.g., war rooms.
  • Organise and preside over meetings with external community organisations.
  • Creative planning and execution of Community Outreach Events and Activities.
  • Coordinate public relations campaigns and Stakeholder events.
  • Encourage volunteerism through community outreach.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops.
  • Ensure CLOs, CHW, CCG and volunteers are appointed, engaged, trained, and placed appropriately.
  • Provide direct support to subordinates.
  • Capacity building through attending appropriate training.
  • Be passionate about making a difference and add value to THINK.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Grade 1
  • Matric Certificate.
  • A tertiary qualification in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in community development or public health.
  • At least 2 years' experience in community development and facilitation, outreach environment, and communitybased education activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community members, and local leader.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people, including those with limited literacy or language barriers.
  • Knowledge of community development principles and practices.
  • Experience in organising and facilitating meetings and events.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Fluent in English and local language(s).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Clear criminal record.
