Position Overview


ALA is looking for a seasoned Security Manager to be responsible for the entire security function on campus including providing protection of all ALA's students, faculty, staff and property.

The Security Manager will also be responsible for developing programs and providing services which promote a safe environment for all ALA's students and Staffulty.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the security function at ALA.
  • Spearhead the development and implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines for efficient management of security services.
  • Proactively take steps to provide a safe and secure environment for students and faculty/staff by ensuring protection and safety of students on and off campus and staff and visitors on campus.
  • Protect the physical assets of ALA. This includes monitoring and enforcing compliance with all fire, health, and safety protocols, and ensuring all fire detection, access and closedcircuit televisions systems are installed and working correctly.
  • Negotiate service level agreements/contracts with external vendors with support of the Director of Operation to secure favourable terms such as best price and superior quality for security services and products.
  • Track and report key functional metrics to measure progress against efficiency metrics related to security and safety objectives.
  • Provide periodic reporting for security and OHS controls and processes highlighting risks and opportunities for improvement. Critical reports to be delivered include quarterly ExCo security reports tracking progress against established OKRs.
  • Spearhead implementation of security and OHS policies and procedures by training ALA community using multiple forums to boost compliance. This includes Child Protection Policy awareness for security guards, contractors, and service providers.
  • Conduct constant assessment of school facilities, grounds and boarding facilities to determine safety & security issues and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in the development and updating of security protocols, crisis and emergency response plans and manuals.
  • Manage, maintains and inputs events, incidents and accidents in a record accessible by Director of Operations and EXCO
  • Analyze reports of school crime. Identifies potential weakness or vulnerabilities requiring mitigation or enhanced safety measures.
  • Establishes relationships with local law enforcement structures including police and community safety forums to enable support for routine and crisis events.
  • Manage, lead and motivate security staff.


The role requires an individual who is experienced in the management of security and safety who fully understands the strategic and operational importance of efficient and effective security and safety management as an important component to the achievement of ALA's vision and mission.


  • Operational excellence, strong communication and relationship management skills to ensure that objectives of the role are achieved.
  • Informed on current industry technologies, trends and strategies and will serve as a trusted expert in the execution of his or her mandate.
  • Possesses safety and security acumen
  • Appropriate experience in the management of staff

Desired Experience

  • Matric
  • PSIRA Grade A / 5 years' experience in security environment
  • Computer literate must be able to work on office programs (outlook, excel and word)
  • Experience in security system management (access control systems, camera surveillance and footage analysis)
  • Experience in conducting investigations, report writing and conclusions.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures
  • No Criminal record.
  • Driver's license and own car.
