About us

There are 2.7 billion frontline employees globally and an estimated 1.1 billion in developing markets. These employees do not use traditional digital channels like email or apps. Equally, despite making up 80% of the world's workforce, only 1% of existing enterprise technology caters for frontline, deskless employees. As a result, these employees are unengaged and disconnected from their employers, leading to low job satisfaction and low employee retention rates.

Enter Jem HR. Jem super-powers a business's HR administration by focusing on digitally connecting the majority of an employer's workforce using the most used messaging app in the world—WhatsApp. By doing this, HR professionals can unlock employee engagement by offering the ignored and underserved deskless workers a suite of services specifically built for them.

The role

The Sales team at Jem has gone through a few iterations of early mobilisation efforts, and we are now clear on what is required to build the foundations for the next 10 years. You will be a core member of the sales team, and will be primarily focussed on finding, managing and closing prospective deals. There is a clearly articulated strategy and sales playbook, but you will need to come in, roll up your sleeves and hunt new deals from day one. You will have to combine process with in-person magic, as you find, manage and close deals through clear value articulation and deep relationship building. You will need to understand our growth strategy clearly, get super close to our customers and be able to work independently.

Your role will be focused on increasing revenue through new sales.

What we are looking for?

Working at an early-stage startup is a different beast. If you are used to predictability, clearly established processes and working with slow moving teams, this is not the role for you. You need to be curious, resourceful, scrappy, and have a deep desire to make sales. You aren't scared to go see clients in person and get your hands dirty. Specifically, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in Start-ups: We have a preference for people who've thrived in start-ups or high-growth environments, where scrappiness, resourcefulness and self-sufficiency are rewarded. If this is not you, how can you demonstrate this to us.
  • Hungry to earn commission: You must want to make sales. Lots of sales. If you want to make real money, this is your role.
  • Organised and process-driven: You need to be able to keep your CRM up to date, follow processes, and manage complex sales pipelines with precision.
  • Proven B2B sales experience: Ideally, you've sold B2B SaaS before. You know the playbooks and have learnt the lessons. You have proven sales experience and can hit the ground running. You should have a track record of exceeding sales targets.
  • Disciplined: You know what to do and when and you stick to your word. You prioritise high-value activities, avoid distractions, and are clear with what you need to do to move the needle and make sales.
  • Growth mindset: You should want to be the best B2B SaaS salesperson in SA. You look for feedback and are consistently finding ways to improve your craft. You love reading, listening and learning about sales.
  • Resilience: This is not easy. People will turn you down. To succeed, you should be able to show endurance and adaptability in challenging sales environments.
  • Curiosity: You need to have a curious mindset and want to learn more about the industry, the people and the why. You are interested and interesting. insights and broad general knowledge.
  • Engagement Skills: You should have the ability to connect with a diverse range of clients, including seasoned professionals outside the tech-savvy sphere. You have strong negotiation and interpersonal skills. You are clear communicator.
  • Collaboration: Collaboration is central to everything you do, and you defer to an open, collaborative way of working with zero ego
The team

The Jem team is a rapidly growing, diverse mix of +30 humans working across the product, technology, sales, marketing, customer operations, strategy, finance and HR functions. As an Account Executive, you will report into the Commercial Director, Chris Hellmann but will also work closely alongside the CEO, and our Leadership team.
