Job Purpose

  • To mitigate and recover expected credit losses in the lending business through effective leadership, process & people management, in line with Nedbank's business strategy

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure detailed understanding of impairment by analyzing and tracking movement and coverage ratios of various portfolios.
  • Budget for both operational and key result drivers by doing effective resource planning and analysis and tracking of operational costs.
  • Set and create strategic plans for execution in line with the Bank's objectives by formalizing, benchmarking, analyzing and measuring outcomes of strategies.
  • Report on key competitive financial triggers related to the business at various governance forums by analyzing the trends and introducing proactive strategies when necessary.
  • Ensure indepth understanding and involvement in case law, courts and relevant legislation by engaging with panel of attorneys on relevant matters.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulations relevant to our industry by utilizing Retail & Group Legal & Compliance when necessary.
  • Manage resources, capacity planning and process management effectively by consistently reviewing norms and technology available, documenting and updating policy and procedures when required.
  • Manage and mitigate potential reputational risk within the business by introducing affective policies and procedures, vetting all SLA's or MOU with all Service Providers and involving Group Risk & Compliance for guidance on any potential reputational matters.
  • Resolve complex matters with media, political and judicial by reporting / involving the relevant Group Departments responsible for oversight.
  • Build enduring relationships with external and internal business partners by clarifying performance measurements and through frequent interaction with stakeholders in terms of performance management.
  • Provide account of the function's performance by generating applicable business performance matrix in the appropriate format, presenting it at the relevant governance forums.
  • Monitor and evaluate external stakeholders performance against SLA, and build trust in working relationships by communicating, knowledge sharing and establish common understanding of product and client grouping.
  • Evaluate efficiency of process, policy and procedures by measuring outcomes against desired results / targets.
  • Ensure System stability and relevance by measuring system performance and continuously enhancing inefficiencies.
  • Create appropriate environment for high performance culture by providing leadership insight, succession planning and organising coaching and upskilling of the team.
  • Ensure alignment and achievement of strategy and create a competitive advantage by translating the Nedbank and Business Unit strategy into a customised Divisional strategy.
  • Develop and introduce a people strategy that will create a culture that drives the Cluster and Nedbank's vision and values.
  • Empower team to make decisions and recommend tailored solutions to business unit specific problems, through coaching and mentoring practices.
  • Ensure the achievement of targets by monitoring implemented Divisional EE and Transformation Plan through consultation with HR.
  • Analyse deviations from Divisional EE and Transformation Plan and ensure recommended corrective action is appropriate and implemented.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to build a differentiated culture by analysing relevant surveys and information.
  • Measure the effectiveness of differentiated culture plan through staff and client feedback and ensure corrective action plans are developed and implemented.

 Essential Qualifications
  • NQF Level
  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees


 Preferred Qualification
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA), BProc LLB, Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • Minimum Experience Level 10 years experience in collections and recoveries (including risk and compliance) within a secured lending environment with 5 years in a senior management role.
